Piggy In The Middle?

Ok I`ve read the many varying problems we all seem to have experienced but not sure mine has been covered, sorry if it has and I missed it. I have had no notification I`m transferred to Greenby so guess I still shout at Plusnet for help? Sickening that a brilliant mail provider should end up like it has! Anyway for the past 3 days I`ve been getting around 80 e.mails all headed "mail delivery failed;returning message to sender" it then continues with

Delivery to the following recipients failed permanently and then lists the person.Delivery to the following recipients failed permanently and lists them.

Reason quoted: A message that you sent to the following recipient could not be delivered due to a permanent error. The remote server? This message was created automatically by mail delivery software on the server. Reason: A message that you sent to the following recipient could not be delivered due to a permanent error. ** The remote server ?? responded with: ** a name ??:?? This message was created automatically by mail delivery software on the server

Now I haven`t tried sending anything and logging into plusnet webmail it shows nothing (nor via thunderbird I use). So where`s it being generated? Do I try plusnet or Greenby Directions gratefully received.

Re: Piggy In The Middle?

If the rejected recipients have @hotmail addresses then see this topic:

https://community.plus.net/t5/Email/Hotmail-rejecting-mail-from-PN-Diagnostic-Code-smtp-550-5-7-1/td...

If not, then you need to open the attachment to the bounce message, called something like 'details.txt', and post the contents here in your original topic BUT make sure you redact any actual email addresses before you post the content.

Re: Piggy In The Middle?

Stuck, thanks for responding although not too sure I can offer too much more as 1 of the attachments just won`t open, and I tried all options to do so, the other attachment merely opens to the advertisment from the drug outlet (which varies in title each time) but all medication based and posted to admin@my plusnet mail addy, plus of course the intended recipients e.mail all of which cover a broad range of different providers each time.

The only info left not quoted is

Reporting-MTA: dns; avasout-peh-001 [212.159.14.17]
Received-From-MTA: dns; mail.enmail.co [91.204.208.8]
Arrival-Date: Mon, 09 Feb 2026 15:12:42 +0000

Final-recipient: rfc822; ****@aol.com
Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 552 1 Requested mail action aborted, mailbox not found

Re: Piggy In The Middle?

@BJonah Somehow, and there are numerous ways, your email address has been found or guessed by a rogue sender - they then use it as the 'From' address when sending out this garbage to another long list of addresses, a large number of which will be long-dead ones, or others they have also 'guessed'.

I would suggest changing you email password, and ignoring all these 'failed delivery' messages.

Re: Piggy In The Middle?

Thanks John, trouble is with so many rogue mails arriving it`s easy to miss out on some important ones plus reading other options people are choosing with forwarding being used to a new provider, I`m wondering if the darn rogue ones would follow me too!

Re: Piggy In The Middle?

@BJonah If you change the password, as suggested above, the 'rogues' should stop fairly quickly - somehow, you credentials have been compromised. In any case, in situations like this, you find they only 'use' your address for a short time.
