Re: Problems sending PN email to Gmail addresses

Can you double check.  It should allow 6x 9s make sure there’s no leading space.  It needs to match exactly.

Double and triple checked. It will only allow 5. No leading space.

@CMOTD

I am guilty of presuming that…

  1. The facility under in the Force9 service is identical to that on the Plusnet user portal
  2. The script also runs against Force9 hosted domains

I will seek confirmation.

Re: Problems sending PN email to Gmail addresses

"All that will be seen in the logs is Gmail refusing delivery of emails and directing that the sender try again later.  It is very doubtful that those deferments will offer any explanation as to why the action is being taken"

Given my own past experiences of NDR's between plusnet addresses (me and a-n-other), I finally accepted that the end-user has to try to identify the reason for the NDR. And report this as a reason.Then (and only then) does a clue finally drop and one (and only one) problem gets resolved.

Will only allow 5 digits ... or you can only see 5 digits?

On double checking, the box only appears to be wide enough to show 5 characters of whatever has been entered.  I was able to enter 15 digits (on a Plusnet account).

Exactly the same problem here, had been working fine and now emails to gmail just disappear. Has anyone found a solution or is this still an open issue?

Re: Problems sending PN email to Gmail addresses

Definitely will only accept 5 digits from keyboard. It scrolls so I can see entire entry. 6th keypress of #9 has no effect whatsoever.

However, I have found a workaround - opened Word document and entered 999999 - copied and pasted into Pri and it worked. All 6 now appear. Only done a short time ago so waiting to see if it fixes the problem. Will report back later.

Re: Problems sending PN email to Gmail addresses

Don;t know if this is significant or not, but for the first time since the Gmail problem arose I've had a bounceback error message.

It arrived yesterday regarding a message I'd sent to a googlemail address on Wednesday.

The reason given for the rejection is "too many distinct from addresses".

I don't understand this as I'm only sending a handful of messages each day - from my Plusnet account only - and addressed to single recipients.

Here's the text of the error message and the 'details.txt' attachment that came with it.

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Delivery to the following recipients failed permanently:

   * xxxxxx@googlemail.com

Reason: A message that you sent to the following recipient could not be delivered due to a permanent error. ** The remote server ?? responded with: ** xxxxxx@googlemail.com ??:?? This message was created automatically by mail delivery software on the server .

Reporting-MTA: dns; avasout-ptp-002 [84.93.230.235]

Received-From-MTA: dns; PCSPEC2020 [xx.x.xxx.xxx]

Arrival-Date: Wed, 09 Jul 2025 16:45:49 +0100

Final-recipient: rfc822; xxxxxx@googlemail.com

Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 550 <84.93.230.235> Too many distinct from addresses.

Last-attempt-Date: Fri, 11 Jul 2025 08:31:50 +0100

Re: Problems sending PN email to Gmail addresses

@PeterB1

I too received my first NDR today - 5 days after being sent.  The 5 day send - failure - retry rinse and repeat period is in line with managing a remote service which is not capable of accepting delivery.

I have really passed the bounce details into the business.  It’s a bizarre excuse from Google … looks as though they are treating the full collective of *.plus.com as a single sender.

Re: Problems sending PN email to Gmail addresses

So as the standard Plusnet address format is myname@myaccount.plus.com, Gmail is ignoring the "myaccount" bit as distinguishing between different senders. Check?

Forgive my ignorance, Townman, but are there other email providers who use a similar address format?

I'm still struggling to work out why (as far as we know) Plusnet is the only provider experiencing this problem with Gmail

Re: Problems sending PN email to Gmail addresses

You'll correct me if I'm wrong, jab1, but the Zen addresses I know all have the format myname@zen.co.uk.

In other words, unlike with Plusnet,. there is no 'myaccount' after the @ to identify individuAL senders.

Re: Problems sending PN email to Gmail addresses

The Zen help pages show addresses such as john@example.myzen.co.uk: https://www.zen.co.uk/help-support/getting-consumer-email-details.

@jab1 is also a Zen customer, so I suspect that's where his knowledge on it is coming from.
