Plusnet nor Greenby emails working again

I am getting so fed up with this appalling service AND lack of customer care from both Plusnet and Greenby. When is someone going to take accountability for this omnishambles and provide us with some decent communication about what is going on?

Re: Plusnet nor Greenby emails working again

Good question, but it has ground to a halt again, after nearly a week of operation for me (via Thunderbird).

Re: Plusnet nor Greenby emails working again

Looking for recommedations for decent email providers. Having to use emergency gmail account at the moment- is this a good long term solution?

Agreed - I've just received 24 emails to my address inbox today. They have all come in together and have various dates going back to January! GREENBY isn't fit for purpose

Just tried to log in my Greenby account to check on any progress on two tickets I have raised... but now my account details are not recognised so I can't log in   😞

Re: Plusnet nor Greenby emails working again

Another vote for Mythic Beasts from me. It might've been you, jab1, that recommended them in one of the many discussions about how bad Greenby are.

I've moved my domain, web hosting, and domain's email over to them in the last few days and I couldn't be happier. Only my plus.com address remains, which I use almost everywhere.

It'd be nice if whoever made the decision to offload email and web services, and especially those who made the decision to go with Greenby, could issue some kind of statement/apology and indicate what, if anything, they're doing to force Greenby to provide a decent service going forwards. This fiasco is damaging Plusnet's reputation, and it's their support staff that are having to deal with the endless complaints and support issues for something they probably have little control over now.

Re: Plusnet nor Greenby emails working again

@john_chandler I have only a basic email account with MB - never bothered with anything else, as I am just a simple guy, with simple needs.😉 I only kept my PN email when I moved ISP 5 years ago because of the hassle of changing so many contact details, but the more I see of this motorway pile-up masquerading as a 'service' the happier I am that I have taken the decision to change.

The chances of anyone at the BT Consumer  Division level (as it there where the decision was made) daring to come on here to explain/apologise, or even acknowledge that there are issues, is as close as my chances of winning the Euromillions lottery, and as I have never entered them, I think you can guess the answer.

I used Mythic-Beasts for email-only hosting on my main domain for circa 6 months last year whilst moving stuff around. Excellent service and no problems whatsoever noted during that time. All good as was support via ticket/email, both pre-sales and after-sales Smiley

So, M-B is also totally recommended by me as well (although please do bear in mind YMMV and all that) for a mere £2/m

[-Censored-]your choice Tongue If I didn't still have Ye Olde *.force9.net and *.plus.com email A/Cs to worry about then I quite simply wouldn't be here at all now because everything else has long since left PN Towers in anticipation of the impending email doom first mooted several years ago.

Anyone with a domain yet to be migrated to the dog's dinner formally known as PN/Greenby really should give some very serious thought as to how 'important' their email actually is to them, do their own due diligence and then make decisions accordingly.

PS: To avoid an out-of-frying-pan-into-fire experience, best avoid any hosting company with "123" and/or "daddy" in their name ... they can even manage to make PN/Greenby look good but at 10x the price and just like PN, they also play the "that important 'feature' you thought you'd paid for was actually a free service and not contractual so we've just decided to stop giving it to you" card very often Wink

B T Plusnet, a bit kinda like P T Barnum ...
... but quite often appears to feature more clowns

Re: Plusnet nor Greenby emails working again

This is about Greenby emails.  Yesterday I couldn't log in to see, receive or send emails.  I got "RC error: Login failed, please check your credentials", I got timeouts, I got "couldn't reach server". The Support bot was no use.  Eventually a human sent a message to say they'd had a serious problem that they thought had been resolved.  Well, it wasn't resolved for me.  They said they were working on it.

I left it some hours before I tried again, and hooray! I was able to get in and things were working.

But they're not working this morning.  I'm back to square one. Just the same as it was first thing yesterday. RC errors, timeouts...  If I do manage to log in, it can't access the emails to display them.

I hate the Greenby email.  It is slow, clunky, un-intuitive and buggy, and it looks like legacy software. My heart is in my mouth whenever I try to log in and use it.  Why the hell did PlusNet choose this godawful system to migrate to?

Re: Plusnet nor Greenby emails working again

I too can't seem to access my emails either. I asked for one of my email accounts to be deleted a couple of days ago as they want to charge me. I don't use that account. However, it's still live and i can log into that at Greenby. More worrying is the fact that I cannot log into my regular Plusnet account at Greenby and my husband can't download his messages to Thunderbird at all. I did get some messages but I know there are others because I can see them on my phone saved in the AquaMail's cache.

Yes, it's tiresome when it isn't working as expected. However...

I seem to remember the old Plusnet email system was very erratic and slow, in its day! I'm prepared to stick it out with Greenby and see how it goes. Remember, there is a massive operation going on behind the scenes transferring a very mixed bunch of email accounts from Plusnet etc. to Greenby. Wouldn't it be unrealistic to expect this to be going on without slowdowns and incidents? I'd prefer to judge Greenby when the transfer is completed and it will be an everyday email provider.

I don't understand your comment about it looking like "legacy software". Compared to what? The old Plusnet webmail client? The default Greenby Roundcube webmail client is clearly a newer version than the older Plusnet one and works OK on my mobile phone.

But, if you want the 'more modern' (i.e. older!) Plusnet Roundcube interface, I understand it can be selected as an option in the Greenby webmail settings.

Re: Plusnet nor Greenby emails working again

@pvmb Yes, the PN mail servers did have the occasional issue, but not on the frequency of Greenby, and not with the resulting total silence once the problem was reported.

Fortunately, most of my contacts are now on a proper email platform, but I still have my PN account live to allow me to 'mop up' any I have forgotten. This means that my client (I DO NOT USE WEBMAIL) is constantly throwing up failure to connect messages and delaying connection to the working alternative.

Totally unacceptable behaviour.

Re: Plusnet nor Greenby emails working again

@pvmb forgive me,  but being "prepared to stick it out with Greenby and see how it goes" is one of the most hilarious things I've read on this forum.  How long have you given them so far?  I was one of the first to be migrated and I've had something like eight months of utter bloody chaos with this bunch of clowns,  with no discernible indication that things are stabilising..
As for the "massive operation" we're expected to be sympathetic about - no,  there is no excuse for p***-poor project management and lack of accountability.  Greenby are quite rightly getting all this opprobrium because people understand the difference between teething problems and a loss of control.  As @blairatholl concluded on a different thread - this migration has failed, and it's time Plusnet/Greenby were called out publicly.
