@PeterJG Yes action (1) worked for me without any need to switch to IMAP or change ports, however many years ago I blackholed (forwarded) username@username.plus.com due to spam, which is why I'm not getting Greenby emails.
So I have created a second email account in my Greenby on-line account reply@username.plus.com and updated my contact details accordingly. I just need to work out how to delete username@username.plus.com without deleting my complete account...

Is it just me or has Greenby been down since 15:09?

I do hope all the suits that were in the meeting that decided to sell our email service to Greenby are very proud of themselves.

They most probably are. They have shed their email clients and kept their broadband subscribers.

The last email received here on T/bird was at 14:39
I had problems this morning - but then it started working.
The Greenby webmail times out too.
Thunderbird keeps trying to connect - but Greenby demands a new password (or re-entering the password) each time.
Do Greenby work at weekends - or is this the notorious BT weekends start Friday lunchtime?

Hi All
Mine went down three days ago with a similar error "Server not found..." I put in a ticket and got the 'can't fix this will transfer to a human from the AI. Reply after two days was "everything should be OK Now" and indeed the email was back. Then it happened again this morning. Added this error to the still open ticket... no reply so far. Not exactly a gold star service!!!

How long for though ?
ISP based email addresses are one way customers are kept loyal / captive, and indeed why ISP based email is not such a good idea as it makes switching more complicated.
Now Plusnet are ever closer to a zero extras broadband supplier - one less reason to stay.

@mwwagain Maybe that is their aim, BT didn't buy Plusnet for the customers, they bought them for the technology which they have copied & put into their own infrastructure. Now they have a service which they don't really need as it is in direct competitoin with their own service. So potentially that is the way forward, take out all the added value from Plusnet & sell it as a no frills basic broadband package at the lower end of the market.

I feel the same. I have always been a keen advocate of Plusnet - its customer service and reliability, but I am not happy with the move to Greenby. I am now retired so another £15 a year to keep my email address is not welcome. Another supplier has effectively given me free broadband in order to keep my TV service, so what is the incentive to stay with PN once my contract expires?

Receiving emails again after submitting a ticket this morning. At least the ticket system seems to be working.

Unless you have your own domain and a 'proper' email hosting service, your email address is locked to a single organisation, be it Plusnet/Greenby, Google or any other of the available slightly cheaper or free companies offering accounts locked to their own domain.
Now Plusnet are ever closer to a zero extras broadband supplier - one less reason to stay.
As far as I am aware, no other budget, residential, ISP offers an email service. BT Retail announced a long time ago that their strategy was to make Plusnet their no frills broadband only ISP, presumably to compete with others at the budget end of this market.
You can assume that the loss of Plusnet customers, compared with the cost of supporting an aging Email platform, was taken into consideration before deciding this approach.
