Missing Email before 22/7/2025

I hope someone can help.

I have lost all my PN emails from before 22/7/2025 some of which are quite important. I tried to access my webmail and there's nothing there either.

I currently run 3 devices which can access my emails A PC via outlook, a MacBook via apple mail and an android phone via Gmail. I am configured on all 3 via Imap. All are missing the emails. I have synced the accounts on each device as has been suggested elsewhere on the forum but to no effect.

I have tried to follow what's happening with the migration on the forum but to be honest it means nothing to me and have no idea what most people are talking about.

I have tried to include the information to some of the questions that have been asked in other peoples posts, but I will try and add anything else that I can.

Can anybody point me in the right direction to get them back ASAP please.

Has your mail account been migrated?

It can take a while for the email clients to resync.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

I don't think so. I haven't seen a notification to say so. I did try and log into the new host as suggested elsewhere but it didn't recognise my PN username and password.

Just to check, if you send an email to yourself do you receive this or do you get an error message?

Just tried sending an email to myself from myself.
It came through ok, no error message.

Hi Roman,

 

I can confirm you haven't been migrated and your mail is still with Plusnet.

Do you know which mailbox and which folder the mail should be in?

 

If you go to https://www.plus.net/manage_my_mail you'll be able to see the mailboxes you have set up, the username of the default mailbox will be your username (or the full email address), the other mailboxes will have the username as username+mailbox (or the full email address).

 

Try going to https://webmail.plus.net and log in with each of the mailboxes and see what mail you can (or can't) see. Hopefully the missing mail will be in one of them or in an additional folder in one of them.

I don't get to see much in terms of what email you've got (number of emails, size of each mail and date is pretty much it) but I can certainly see some mail in one of the mailboxes that goes back further than 22nd July 2025 so I'm hoping that's what you're looking for.

Thanks for the reply Dave,

I am missing emails from the main mailbox roman.<redacted>@<redacted>.plus.com. They should be in the Inbox. I don't archive or use sub folders.

The other mailboxes  seem OK so far as I can see.

I am concerned as I have link to theatre tickets for next week, an early Christmas present for the wife, purchased 07/07/25 I believe. I should get a further email 48hrs before the date but i'd rather not wait until the last minute to get this sorted if it doesn't come as it had the invoice attached.

There are others that I need but that's the main one.

Thanks, you might want to edit your email out of the post, I've flagged to the mods if they pick it up first.

 

I can't see any inbound mails from before 22nd July on the default account, have you used a device to log in with POP3? I can see some POP3 logins up until 4th September. When was the last time you remember seeing the mails? I'm wondering if whatever was using POP3 has downloaded them and delete them. Most POP3 clients are set to delete the message from the server by default, but can also be set to leave it permanently, or delete after a certain amount of time.

@dave 

Affirmation that there has been a POP3 client in the mix is most useful.  Invariably adding POP3 access to a mailbox accessed on multiple devices brings nothing but confusion.

There have been some rare examples of a third party exploiting compromised credentials to harvest emails.  Is it possible identify if the POP3 client was on the users device / connection?

Thanks for the info. I forgot about not posting personal info. I see it has been redacted already.

I had to reload the IOS on my Mac book air recently, it may have been in September. I don't remember having to reload the email accounts as I restored from backup so I can't see where or why I would have changed the settings to a POP account as I have always, as far as I can remember used IMAP. This was something my old IT guru at work suggested and i've followed his advice since on all my devices (I have a MacBook, PC and Android phone)

As to when I last saw the emails, probably about 4-5 weeks or so ago but I may be wrong. It would only have been a glance backwards while looking for something specific like ticketing info.

Hi Roman,

 

On your Mac do you have a Timemachine backup from before you did the restore? The backup might have the older emails in it if you do. I remember having to do something similar for my mum once. Unfortunately I can't see anything on our side that meets dates older than 22nd July same as you.

Dave,

I tried to restore from backup, but I still can't find the emails. It looks like they were lost before I updated the IOS.

Is there anything that can be don it looks like I don't have viable backup before the date 22/07/25 that the emails are missing.
