Re: Is Greenby down?

@pvmb

It's New Style as a default.

I use Mailwasher to view the emails on my PC, prior to downloading. It states that "The POP server does not appear to conform to the POP3 protocol" and "The connection was intentionally closed by the server before the connection before the session was completed.

Last checked my mail on Thursday and all was well then.

Re: Is Greenby down?

We can see the outage has been very severe and it is being restored bit by bit, perhaps brand by brand.

When writing about this problem it difficult to follow what is working and what is not if the post does not mention which brand of email you are using Plusnet i.e name@<account>.plus.com or Metronet or Force9 etc and which email servers you are using.

There is a long list of email server that different people use, many are still hosted by Plusnet and some others are hosted by Greemby.

There is little point in slamming Greenby if you can not send via Plusnet hosted SMTP relay.plus.com !

"There is little point in slamming Greenby"

Except of course it's bouncing emails randomly which most people won't know about unless the original sender sees the bounce and contacts them.

Was another "queue file write failure" and a new one "temporary lookup failure" last night.

So that's .. every day the last 4 days it's bounced an incoming email due to a technical issue at Greenby.

Re: Is Greenby down?

My Thunderbird log-in is still not working ('server down' message from Tbird) and there is nothing showing in the inboxes in webmail.

Ridiculously, I had an email at around 4:30 am from Greenby support telling me all was well.

I also had a threatening phising email from my own default mailbox a few minutes earlier - I've never had one of those before.

When I attempted to reply to the support email I received this back:

This is the mail delivery service responsible for delivering mail to [email protected].

The message you've sent cannot be delivered. Your original message is attached to this message.

For further assistance please contact [email protected]. Please include the details below to help us identify the issue.

[Incidentally, I sent a link to this forum topic to the greenby support person ]

Re: Is Greenby down?

I have the same issues - I can send emails but the receiving server seems to be down still.

I have a .plus.com address.

Re: Is Greenby down?

Same issues - here - thunderbird connects bit only mail in main inbox folder - all folders gone.

Web mail from web site gives this and shows no email at all.

Re: Is Greenby down?

My suggestion - to everyone using a Plusnet, or F9/MAAF/whatever email address, is to find an alternative email provider.

What can I say? Greenby webmail working as usual - outgoing and incoming Greenby/BT Email accounts.

Only things to note:

1. As usual, Greenby a bit sluggish in operation

2. Mails from Plusnet/Greenby put into Spam box at BT Email - might be worth following up given Gmail issues?

Re: Is Greenby down?

@pvmb Do you/did you work for Enix? although my transfer went smoothly, there are hundreds on here who have had nightmare experiences.

PN webmail/email has had its 'moments' but those were of reasonably short duration and  fortunately responded to on here (sometimes with explanations)

Enix/Greenby have had failure after failure, of which this is just the latest, and there is zero communication from them.

I thought Enix were a 'professional' company?

No.

"although my transfer went smoothly, there are hundreds on here who have had nightmare experiences."

Yes, seemingly so. But:

1. Presumably we haven't heard from "hundreds" who have not had "nightmare experiences"? Apart from me! 🙂

2. There seems to be more than one reason for the issues. Many of these failures seem to have been down to faulty settings in client email software. As I only use webmail I don't suffer from such issues...

Re: Is Greenby down?

@pvmb OK, so you didn't/don't work for them.

2. A lot of those 'faulty settings' were down to the Greenby 'faqs' - when I read them, merely out of curiosity, with no intention of following them, I was amazed - amazed I tell you - at the level of misinformation provided.

How long has this migration been ongoing, and have Greenby made any attempt to deal with the fallout? - not that I can see, for sure.

You can't have been more amazed as me at reading some of the settings 'recommended' on this forum!

That along with people asking: "Please stop me getting all this spam at [email protected]"!

😮

@jab1

"Which 'recommended settings' suggestions' on this forum, @pvmb ?"

Let's not go there.

Instead, let's ask a question: "Would you hand over your house keys to the first dude you met in the street who asked for them?"

No, you wouldn't (presumably). But, on t' Internet, it seems to be different...
