Re: Hotmail rejecting mail from PN [Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 550 5.7.1]

A potential interim solution to this issue , for those that have already been migrated to Greenby is to use the Enix SMTP servers directly.

By using "mail.enmail.co" as SMTP server,

Port: 465,

Authentication method: Normal password, C

Connection security: SSL/TLS

From here

https://community.plus.net/t5/Tech-Help-Software-Hardware-etc/Switching-to-EE/m-p/2039154#M98800

This avoids having to use Plusnet's currently blacklisted SMTP servers

You can check out but you can never leave ( easily)

Re: Hotmail rejecting mail from PN [Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 550 5.7.1]

Posting this as it might be useful for others.

Thank to @Protech for this initial advice hints.

I've been migrated to Greenby (since about New Year).

I'm receiving emails OK (using mail.plus.net Port 995) (although I had to increase my "whitelist scores" to make the filters "less aggressive" in order to get emails directly into my Inbox - rather than into Junk at Greenby! - But that's a separate issue!)

I too have being having major issues sending emails to Microsoft accounts.  But I can now send to Microsoft accounts by using mail.enmail.co Port 465,and setting encryption to SSL/TLS (rather than STARTTLS).  At least I haven't had any bounce-backs yet from Microsoft accounts.

But I also had to change my "logins".  To login to my incoming server (mail.plus.net) I need to use my PlusNet username (NOT my PlusNet email address) and password. When using the PlusNet outgoing (SMTP) server, I could simply use the same login details.  However, when using the Greenby (mail.enmail.co) outgoing (SMTP) server, I had to change my login details to be my email address and password (NOT my PlusNet username).  I tried to use my email address as the login details for the incoming server (mail.plus.net) - so that the incoming (PlusNet) server and the outgoing (Greenby) server used the same login details, but that didn't work.

But......... (there's always a but!) using Greenby outgoing server - I now can't send emails to iCloud accounts 😞  See error messages below:

When using the PlusNet Server, I couldn't send to iCloud accounts if I sent to multiple addresses at the same time, but I could send to iCloud accounts if I only sent to one (iCloud) account at a time.

It appears that when using the Greenby Server, I can't send to iCloud accounts at all - not even to a single iCloud account at a time.

So (thanks to @Protech ) I've managed to solve one issue, but swapping to Greenby servers appears to have a created another. (**Sigh**)

My solution (which is a real faff), is to use Greenby Servers for sending outgoing emails to all my contacts, see which ones bounce (from iCloud).  Then change my outgoing server back to PlusNet. Re-send the bounced emails (individually) to the iCloud accounts.  Then change my outgoing server back to Greenby.

This is far from ideal, but at least I can email all my contacts - and is probably less grief than getting another email address and having to update everyone - although that will probably be the ultimate way forward.

I've raised a ticket with Greenby about not being able to reach iCloud accounts - but I'm not holding my breath for a reply - never mind a solution!

@LD289

That is exactly what I have done - in anticipation, as I haven't been moved yet or had any warning that I am about to be - but the more of my contacts I can move to my other mail service in advance, the less hassle I will have later. I would recommend your 'ultimate way forward', as I suspect neither Plusnet or Greenby are serious in trying to solve the problems so many are having.

Re: Hotmail rejecting mail from PN [Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 550 5.7.1]

I've not been migrated to Greenby, but so far I've been sending to outlook/hotmail address okay this week (using webmail.plus.net). I don't know anyone using an icloud account, so haven't checked that out.

Obviously we have no idea if/when the problem will be resolved completely. or if it'll come back again once fixed. I'm glad I've started moving mail over to a new provider.

Re: Hotmail rejecting mail from PN [Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 550 5.7.1]

Hi Folks

FYI here is a reply I received from Greenby Tech support

********************************************************

I sincerely apologise that this issue is still ongoing and causing disruption.

We are aware of delivery problems to Outlook and Hotmail accounts, and as mentioned previously, this appears to be related to part of BT’s IP range being blocked on their side. A delisting request has already been submitted.

The issue issue you're encountering is related to the IP range (212.159.14.17) being blocked by Outlook, which is part of BT's IP range. We are already aware of this situation and have submitted a delisting request to Outlook. However, this process is subject to their policies and may take some time before the block is lifted.

Best regards,

************************************************

One would think that someone as big at BT would have some resources to investigate what happened/changed to cause the problem, and some clout with Microsoft to get it fixed with some urgency.

Thanks for the update, and well done for getting a reply from Greenby.  If I were you, I'd go and buy a lottery ticket now.

Re: Hotmail rejecting mail from PN [Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 550 5.7.1]

What utter rubbish service!

Between them Greenby, Plusnet & BT have completely failed to look after their customers adequately regarding this issue!

They should be offering compensation.
