Email phishing from zero to deluge

I've used Plusnet email for over 20 years and had almost zero spam or phishing.

My Plusnet spam settings have, for as many years as I can remember, been as follows ...

Spam filtering = Yes

Discard Obvious spam = Off

Aggressiveness of spam filter = 1

Since about the beginning of November, we have had multiple phishing emails every day.

I have since changed ...

Discard Obvious spam = On

and gradually ramped up the Aggressiveness.  It's now on 4

None of these changes make any noticeable difference.

Are we to be condemned to the next 20 years of Greenby like this ?

Does Greenby have ANY spam of phishing filtering ?

Are they expecting we users to put up with this ?   Or are they expecting us to jump ship ?

Is Plusnet expecting us to jump ship ?

Do either or both want users to jump ship ?Huh

Any genuine official information from either Plusnet or Greenby or both would be welcome

so we can all have a happy new year ...

Re: Email phishing from zero to deluge

We have the same deluge of super obvious spam messages.

The Plusnet email spam detection have become non functional.
Even the worst of spam is not detected / flagged in any way.

The spam portal at : https://www.plus.net/manage_my_mail/  has been out of action for some months.

This looks like when we move to GreenBy we may not have spam detection.
It could be a brief subscription if that is the case.

Re: Email phishing from zero to deluge

I started getting quite a few spam emails over a month ago for almost the first time ever on Plusnet. It's easing off now but my wife has started getting half a dozen daily, some with viruses. Fortunately Norton is picking those up but its very concerning. My suspicion was that it is to do with Plusnet wanting to get rid of their email responsibilities.  Could I be right?

Re: Email phishing from zero to deluge

@wincle    It looks like Plusnet have handed over control of my email (at least to some extent) even though I've not yet been migrated to Greenby servers.

I would like to think that when my email actually gets onto a Greenby server, they will have some proper spam protection ... just like a proper email services company.

In the meantime, like you, I'm dependent on Norton to weed out the viruses, but I'd rather not receive any of the junk.

I don't want to receive it and I don't want to have to forward it all to   report@phishing.gov.uk

Whether or not all the reports I've sent has changed anything so far, I can't tell.

Re: Email phishing from zero to deluge

I registered a complaint with Plusnet about this a couple of days ago and got a phone call today, as my wife is still getting several spam daily, often with viruses. I only get the old one but still many more than before. The lady who called admitted they have issues and that their back room team is aware of it and working on it. Unfortunately she - and they - can't say when it'll be fixed. She maintained it would be OK when we're migrated to Greenby - but again couldn't say when that might happen.
She wanted to close my complaint but I said she couldn't as it hadn't been fixed so they're sending a holding letter and I can go to the Ombudsman! Fat lot of good that would do.

Re: Email phishing from zero to deluge

@wincle  Well done for logging a call.

Historically, it wasn't necessary to officially log a call, because these Community posts were monitored.  However, there's not been any official response on the Community to my original post.

Lets hope that it's fixed very soon but either way, after over 20 years with plusnet and using Plusnet email, once the email is gone, there's nothing to keep me on Plusnet.

I would have thought it was in their interest to make a big effort to keep people even happier after having told us we'll soon be paying for the email service ...
