Re: Email client login not working

I have just finished running a batch of tests and writing them up for the business.  I can now confirm that FORCE9 secondary mailboxes are NOT accepting email addresses as the userID for logon.

For the time being, try account+mailbox as the userID in place of the email address.

I hope there will be an update soon...

Re: Email client login not working

I've been having intemittent issues whilst following this thread, however using the domain+user has worked in the majority (about 4 out of 5 times), however today it doesn't seem to work most of the time. Has something changed?

This is also on F9, and domain@ mailboxes work, it's just domain+user that isn't working.

Cheers,

EDIT: Webmail continues to work as always.

Re: Email client login not working

Any further update on this?
I'm still getting about 50% errors trying to sign into domain+mailbox accounts with "ERR internal server error"

Cheers

Re: Email client login not working

When trying to log into my mailboxes. I have a POP3 downloader pulling mail to my local device and I either get "ERR internal server error" or timeout for about 50% of the tries.

Like stated above, doesn't happen on my domain account, only on my domain+mailbox logins. It's still "working" in that it does grab mail from the servers, but just wanted to flag that there is still an issue somewhere. If it's a DNS Round Robin, could just be affecting one of the mail servers, hence the intermittency of the issue Smiley

Re: Email client login not working

@Gilgamoth

Thank you, to confirm...

  1. You have a PC based email client (which one)
  2. It is configured for POP3 operation on a secondary mailbox (which brand)
  3. The client is reporting server errors or time outs (what is the current server time out setting)

Are you connected on the Plusnet network or some other internet connection?

If Plusnet, do you have a static IP and are you using safeguarding?

Re: Email client login not working

Hey Townman

  1. The POP3 downloader I usually use is by Quantum Software, but I've tested it with Outlook as well to make sure it wasn't the downloader at fault
  2. It's configured to log into 5 Force9 mailboxes, 1 domain account and 4 sub-mailboxes. The domain account never errors, but the sub-mailboxes error frequently. I'm suspecting about 50% of login attempts, but that's currently circumstantial as the downloader polls every 3 mins
  3. Timeout value is set to 1min
  4. Webmail doesn't seem to be affected

I appreciate that this isn't typical end user usecase as I've been working in IT for 30+ years and have collected "stuff", but just wanted to share my findings.

Cheers,

Re: Email client login not working

That is really useful.  I will ask some questions - this seems to fit with other experiences.

Can you try raising the timeout to 2 minutes.  That will not eliminate the issue, but it might mitigate the failure rate.
