Re: Compensation from Plusnet for email outage?!

@briston You can use an email client with PN - I did for the 9+ years I was with them , and still do.

Re: Compensation from Plusnet for email outage?!

@jab1Maybe something has been lost in the translation. I do use an email client and my own domain name. Apologies if I have misled someone

Re: Compensation from Plusnet for email outage?!

Sorry, @briston . Re-reading, I see you were recommending the use of a proper client over webmail - apologies.

PlusNet do have secure email available, been using it for months now.

POP uses 995 SSL

SMTP uses 587 STARTTLS

@jab1

Yes you can , but (until recently according to one of the above posters) they did not use a secure connection to connect to it.

Re: Compensation from Plusnet for email outage?!

@Rik13 - don't quite understand your last comment. Secure mail has been available for 6 months +. Not sure when it was released, as I don't worry about it, but my 6 months could be a very conservative estimate.

Re: Compensation from Plusnet for email outage?!

@jab1

Mine was set up in Thunderbird a long time ago and the settings were , and still are ... security type none , and password transmitted insecurely , they didn't support secure password and there was always concern about it . Apparently this situation has changed.? Not that it matters to me I don't really use it and only check it occasionally through webmail .

Re: Compensation from Plusnet for email outage?!

You could change that - if you wished -now. The current set up details don't mention the 'insecure' settings at all, AFAIK.

I'll try it out when it gets back up and running.

Re: Compensation from Plusnet for email outage?!

It's a free service offered which has no guarantees - so I assume you are not entitled to any compensation...

It's not a service provided as part of your T's and C's

It is not a free service, it is advertised as part of their business packages.
