Accessing email via Thunderbird

Recently, my password is not recognized in Thunderbird when collecting email even though I can access via webmail using the same username/password combination.  My last email in my Thunderbox email is 9th September so the issue seems to have happened after that.

My server settings remain:

Server Type: POP Mail Server

Server Name mail.plus.net

Port 110

Connection security None

Authentication method Password, transmitted insecurely

Can anyone suggest what's needed to fix this please?

@simonides

Are you on or off network?

These are the preferred settings for plusnet email.

IMAP: imap.plus.net port: 993 TLS/SSL

POP3: mail.plus.net port: 995 TLS/SSL

SMTP: relay.plus.net port: 587 STARTTLS

Password authentication would be set to "Normal password"

@simonides

When you get the prompt "Password not recognised" try logging on with username@username.plus.com if you are with plus.com and use the same password.  I had the same problem using Outlook and that sorted it.

Re: Accessing email via Thunderbird

Ignore trying to fiddle with the email application settings.  There are a multitude of reasons that one cannot connect to email servers but unfortunately in most email clients ALL connection issues report as a 'password' error.

Running the email server connection diagnostics (link below) is more likely to give a clear indication of what the problem is.

Re: Accessing email via Thunderbird

Thank you for the support given. I managed to fix it by fiddling with the username and reentering the password. I referred to https://www.plus.net/help/archive/email/thunderbird-setup/

Unfortunately I'm not 100% how I fixed it but it seems to work now!  Thanks again!
