Ranking system going crazy?

Hi guys,

I have spoken to Lithium about this and a bug has been identified by a their specialist team and has been passed over to the software devs as a potential bug in the code.

I was also told that by changing the ranking formulas could also cause this to trigger rank notification for all users but they have not been changed as far as I know.

I will keep you updated when I get more information.

I do apologise about this @rongtw - that looks really bad how it jumps up and down like that.

I have been hunting around the settings but the only way to turn the ranks off is to do it globally... but then it throws my spam PM protection out as it relies on the ranking system to assign a rank to enable PMs once some conditions have been met...

I will give Lithium a poke and see whats going on.

I have dealt out a poke to Lithium about this to see if I can get any timings on this or suggestions on a temporary fix while its investigated.

I will update once I get any feedback.

I have been in contact with Lithium and the only workaround would be to disable the notification system entirely. That is not a viable option as this would affect a users accessibility to subscriptions, thanks/likes and mentions. I know that I rely on the notification system for checking on activity everywhere on the community and I am sure a large number of others also rely on this system.

I have been assured that this is being looked into as a product bug though. Hopefully a fix will come soon and I will update when I know more!

Yes, I gave them a prod last night about it. I am hoping they will fix it soon.

I have a couple of ideas I am going to try first thing tomorrow.

I have made an adjustment to the ranking system. Let me know if this has alleviated the issue at all.

If not, then I may have another trick up my sleeve.

Jack, Is there any insight as to why this particular user has a variable ranking?

You know the thresholds - skipping up on the back of a post being accepted as a fix is understandable - but what about going down? That might be an easier fix to this issue.

Damn, I thought I had figured out what was going on and removed some extra guff from the ranking system that would upgrade users to 'established member' and remove the 'member' roles at higher ranks. It would seem that this didn't fix the issue and was not the root cause.

I haven't had any updates on this yet but will see if I can get some info on the status.

Apologies for this guys, I hope we can resolve this soon.

Can I / we assume from this comment that the ranking system is implemented in JS?

No, its part of the core system and it gives me several options as part of that system to also do other things via an admin panel in the backend gui. The ranking system is seperate but linked to the roles (permissions) system - thats where I thought the problem was the root cause and was waiting to hear if the issue still persists.
