Re: Mac OSX/Linux forum

As @Chris has confirmed, this was discussed last week at our project board meeting and the decision was made to stay as we are at this moment in time.

Re: Mac OSX/Linux forum

Seems an ill judged decision when the "Help with Plusnet Services" expanded to 10 boards?  Couple this with the totally ineffective search engine and there is a real struggle to find relevant posts.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

The search area is being worked on to include a granular search so you can choose to search between community/users/private messages without having to go to the advanced search page. It's still early stages and we need to get a design together for it but its getting there. The functionality is already implemented on the staging site, just needs some styling to make it usable.

Given the number of real issues elsewhere, I think this is the right decision.  These areas of interest are not core to supporting ISP centric services.

@jaread83  It's good to know that it is being worked on 'cos the current version is borderline unusable.

And neither is Chit-Chat which I recall you said should be the first to go - or words to that effect. You seem to forget that by providing specific areas for more niche activity, that is not merely there for a couple of people but for a noticeable number, you are "creating a community" - I can only assume you don't want that, at least it seems that way when it comes to any areas in which you are not interested.

The "issues elsewhere" are primarily with Lithium, and have absolutely nothing to do with what boards exist.

The amount of traffic is totally irrelevant. And most people were in favour of keeping them separate when this was discussed. Two extra boards, I can see that's going to be a real serious problem - NOT Crazy3

The name of this place is Plusnet Community, well as time goes on it seems it's becoming less and less of one. Such boards are places where people can go and talk about common interests. It's all part and parcel of "A happy active thriving community socialising and not dealing with just problems day in day out." as one member of staff put it at the time.

To be perfectly frank, it's posts like the two that I've quoted that I find totally disheartening and just turn me off wanting to bother to spend as much time as I used to on these boards. Nobody is forcing anyone to visit boards that are of no interest to them and that includes Plusnet Help Team staff when the boards are not part of the core support areas.
I read this post earlier and coffee nearly ended up all over my keyboard and screen, but on reflection there is more than an element of truth in all that was said.

@Chris - this is totally the wrong decision and I hope it will be reviewed asap.

Re: Mac OSX/Linux forum

Def seems like the "community" is no longer wanted here.
Maybe we should move to somewhere else, and leave the board empty bar the 100's of sub help forums where you can't find anything useful?

Re: Mac OSX/Linux forum

Can't they just have sub forums in the software/hardware part, what's the difficulty? Back in the gaming days I had a board just for the players who I gamed with. I seem to remember it was just a case of +sub forum +name title if it keeps everyone happy and helpful people with specialist knowledge hanging about rather than badgering support over something they may not understand I can't see the problem.

Know what you mean with so called specialist forums. You very rarely get a reply and when you do it's usually something patronising. Even when you search a board first before posting you often find that there's similar situations as yours but not exactly what you mean, a discussion ensues in your own thread on whether or not it's a legitimate question or a copy of another question. The effort put into that discussion could easily have found answers to your original problem.
