Last post shortcuts modification

After using the community site for some time I have seen where a possible improvement could be added.
When looking at the top level menu of the Forums it is possible to go directly to the last post of the latest post only on the Board in General. Once the board is entered these 'shortcuts' no longer exist but instead may have to navigate to the last page (unless settings set to view latest first).
Could the shortcuts be added per Subject with the last postee's name being a link to that post perhaps?

Re: Last post shortcuts modification

Why would you want that? Usually I want to the first unread post in a topic and therefore click the new icon. If I do want the end I click the last page number in the index and then hit end.

Re: Last post shortcuts modification

geezer seems to want the same feature/functionaility as phpBB, and I agree with him.
I often want to go to the last post of a thread and don't want to faff too much with mouse clicks and keystrokes

Re: Last post shortcuts modification

I appreciate that this was a feature that phpBB had but I've found that as the icon works so much better than on the old phpBB forums that I haven't missed the feature. The satisfy my puzzlement could you explain the circumstances under which you want to go to the last post.
The only thing I could think of was to remember what the last person said if going back to a topic to add a reply - I just hit reply from any page of the topic knowing that the last post will be in the Topic Summary below the message composition box.

Re: Last post shortcuts modification

i keep a weather eye on threads but don't want constant notifications; so every so often "check in" to see what's going on by peeking at the last post
i doubt there's many of us who want this feature, but I  like it.
No big deal, just a minor eccentricity on my part really Roll_eyes

Re: Last post shortcuts modification

oh hang on i just checked clicking "new" and that seems to do exactly the same thing now (I'd convinced myself somehow when the new forum s/w came online that it didn't)
let my posts on this subject be struck from the record ...

Re: Last post shortcuts modification

There is a difference. If it's a 5 page topic and the last time you visited it was on page three, New will take you to the first post you hadn't seen previously on page three - not to the end of page 5 which where the phpBB link would take you.

Re: Last post shortcuts modification

Talk about missing the bleeding obvious  Embarrassed
Try clicking the little last post icon
That always takes you to the very end of the topic (not the first unread post in the topic).
