Formatting in posts

This has happened before but don't remember seeing it posted anywhere...
Basically if you italicise some text that includes a quote then the quote doesn't get italicised and the trailing '' appears in the text.
Everything after the quote is in normal text.
e.g.
Here is some italicised text
Quote
with quote

Re: Formatting in posts

@Mav
Can you post an example using the (Code) rather than the (Quote) as it will show how the code gets wrapped

Re: Formatting in posts

Quoting the original post shows you the code.
Here is some italicised text
with quote

gives you this:
Here is some italicised text
Quote
with quote

@mav No need to use code - just wrap [nobbc][/nobbc] round it as I've done!

Re: Formatting in posts
testing testing testing
testing
testing testing testing
testing
testing
testing testing testing
testing
Gives
Quote
testing testing testing

testing
Quote
testing testing testing
testing

testing
Quote
testing testing testing
testing

So I assume that the effect of a quote is that it nullifies any open formatting

Re: Formatting in posts

@jelv what does the [nobbc] code do as I can't see anything different between your post and mine except you first showed how I entered the relevant code before displaying the resultant text. Just worked it out Wink
@Oldjim certainly looks that way.

Re: Formatting in posts

This is in some ways not unlike HTML block level precedence.
is "block" level formatting whilst is "in-line" level formatting.
In-line level formatting does not / cannot "span" a block level formatting directive.  So...

Quote
text

is valid, whereas

Quote
text

is not.  Hope this is clear?
