Community and Usergroup Forums

Why are there two distinct groups in operation? Is there any difference in terms of purpose, management, or content? Is there a need to have both groups, or could merging them benefit the community as a whole?

Re: Community and Usergroup Forums

Hi Maranello,
Congratulations on opening a large can of worms Smiley
The Usergroup are independant of Plusnet and as such ,they run their own website with their own forums.  We are however, looking to import Usertools, which includes the Service Status feed, Exchange Checker and so on, into Community.

Re: Community and Usergroup Forums

What implications does that have for the IRC channel?

Re: Community and Usergroup Forums

I suspect that would also move.  I would of course ask Colin...
Ah.
Basically, we're looking at moving everything that was on Usertools (note Usertools and not Usergroup) onto Community, but this will have been set back a bit with Colin leaving for southern shores.

With tin opener in hand, maranello asks,

Makes sense; some of the things on Usertools have always seemed a bit too important to not be 'in-house'. Glad to hear that there're no immediate plans to close the IRC channel with the move anyway - with a bit of luck, some promotion on the Community site will make it more busy again... a few years ago, when Plusnet were pushing Usertools more and it was therefore better known, it was quite an active and useful resource.

@adiewoo
Thanks for the link. Once I saw 'Chat' so prominently displayed, I lost interest (and put the tin-opener back in the drawer).
Or am I mis-interpreting what it is?

Re: Community and Usergroup Forums

looks like I will have to do a speed reading course, I can only just about keep up with this and a selected BBC RSS feed.
Then there is PUG  IRC  Twitter and of course the News feed that people seem to suggest run into Gb per day Angry Sad Shocked Roll_eyes Tongue

IRC's made for Pierre? You're forgetting that it's text-only - no images. Tongue
