Re: VAT Increase & Price Changes - January 2011

I'm in full agreement with the previous post about the marketing rubbish PN put in their Important announcements.  The fact they're charging you more money gets hidden with ifs and buts about other amazing deals they offer.  This must STOP now!  In fact I made aformal complaint about a similar issue 12 months ago where I was told by an apparently 'senior manager'  that he was going to feedback this issue to the department that deals with these communications so that important announcements are just that plain and simple.  In fact most other companies issue letters to state that terms and conditions are changing because that is their legal obligation to do so.  Even BT of all companies send formal letters, not emails with important news mixed in with marketing rubbish we just don't want to read because we are already customers.
The amount of spam that PN send out about special deals if you recommend a friend goes straight in 'deleted items' folder, the only one I do read is when my direct debit is being taken and how much.  That is all I want to know.  Where terms and conditions change I'd expect a formal annoucement in the post as this is a legal issue.  I believe PN are on shaky ground with the way they make 'important' announcements via email.  In fact I'm surprised nobody has taken up this issue with the Trading Standards I'm seriously considering on doing so myself.

@A Fox Is Evil, I gather that because I don't agree with that quote from a rag that I must be wrong? Must I believe everything then In quotes? Crazy

I'm pretty sure I didn't alter any of the wording.
So disputing the accuracy of my quote, seems strange.

...As a gesture of goodwill, Plusnet said it will give you 300 minutes of international calls for three months.

(The last few words of the quote you don't like)
Seems Plusnet admitted liability there. Smiley

Could of fooled me. You just seem to be on the warpath against anyone with anything that is a justifiable claim. You don't seem to be able to accept that anyone else out there might have a less than faultless service and that your opinion and your opinion only is all that is correct.
Let me ask you something Steve: What shape is this cheese wedge?

Sorry, just ???, for butting in! I think the argument could go on ad infinitum, until the cows have not only come home, but have been processed in to dog food. Roll_eyes
So PN got it wrong, were deceitful, are crooks: take your pick. In the end you either live with the new regime or find what look like greener pastures.

What about all the other companies that only send out changes of T&C via email?  Many web-hosting companies only do it by email.  I have no problem with this.
Means the changes of the T&C are stored somewhere electronically that I can get to easily without having to hunt through a few trees to find them.

In admission I also prefer electronic notification of things - it makes it easier to track (IE email headers) and store.
What I don't like about this issue though is the structure of the email. It's been done wrongly and I won't leave this alone until I get some sort of explanation and apology. If I don't get those I'll either be hunting pastures new as suggested or Ofcom will be getting a letter.

Re: VAT Increase & Price Changes - January 2011

Regarding the ever-popular charge of £1-50 that BT charge for non-DD payment - well it's going up!
I wonder what their subsidiary companies will do?
Quote
From 29 January 2011 the Payment Processing Fee (PPF) will include UK VAT at 20%. This means that the price will increase from £1.50 a month to £1.80 a month, which remains less than half the price charged by some of our competitors. Up until now the PPF has been treated as a VAT exempt charge, however the European Court of Justice has recently decided that these charges are subject to VAT. The Court's decisions are binding on all EU Member States and BT is legally required to charge VAT.
Quote
Remember, you don't have to pay the payment processing fee if you pay your bill by Whole Bill Direct Debit or a Monthly Payment Plan.

Re: VAT Increase & Price Changes - January 2011

On the 7 February 2011 I get an e-mail....
Quote
Important information about your Plusnet service
We contacted you recently about a £1.50 charge for paying by credit or debit card. We've extended the date from which this will come into effect from 1st February to 1st March. This is to give you more opportunity to switch to Direct Debit.

On the 8th February my bank tells me Plusnet have helped themselves to an extra £1.50.
Mmmmm.
Do customers have to go to the expense of notifying Plusnet or is the refund automatic?
