goldenfibre, be careful with all this repeat posting in the same thread, where you aren't really contributing anything new, or anything to help the situation, so people may look upon you as a bit of a troll. You are also making full quotes of immediately preceding posts, see Forum Rules

Re: Autumn Price increase FAQ's

Obviously it would be foolish to take out a LRS contract with any phone company.  Grin

Re: Autumn Price increase FAQ's

No, LRS is similar to taking out a fixed-term (broadband) contract, even if legally it is not a fixed-term contract.  The similarity is that people commit in order to save money but they cannot get out ahead of time without losing money.

Why should a BT Retail price increase affect Plusnet pricing - Wholesale and Openreach prices have not increased?

Oh dear, whilst clearly it has no "direct" effect and we know that the wholesale prices have not increase as has been said so many times, which is why we are all moaning, have you not noticed how the "Cartel" has been operating over the last 18 months or so? BT Retail puts the price up and everyone else jumps on the bandwagon.

22 pages on and I've still not seen any reason to not pay LRS on 20th September to take advantage of facility to pay up to 3 months ahead  Smiley

Re: Autumn Price increase FAQ's

@ nadger - Agreed. There is certainly no disadvantage to taking up LRS as it's looking very unlikely now that line rental will come down in the next 12 months.
I do wonder if/when OFCOM will intervene because their fixed access market review is not having the expected impact at a consumer level:

These policies aim to promote competition and investment, which we believe will continue to deliver substantial benefit to consumers. Our assessment is focused on the wholesale level - the services bought by communications providers like Sky, TalkTalk and BT Consumer - as this has proved to be the best way of ensuring strong, effective competition at the retail level.

The disadvantage is that you bind yourself to Plusnet for 12 months, more if you pay in advance.  So if some other ISP comes out with a really good offer for broadband and phone then you cannot take it without sacrificing the remained of your paid-for line rental.  Or if for some reason you get really annoyed with Plusnet, you cannot take your custom elsewhere without sacrificing the remainder of your paid-for line rental.

Nothing to stop Plusnet having two price increases in one year.

But you can say the same for anything that has a minimum term contract - mobile phones, gas, electricity etc. Of course you can always shop around for the best deal, but you're always at risk of signing up with someone and a few weeks later a cheaper deal with someone else comes out. I think on balance though, most people don't tend to switch around each year for the best deal.

Re: Autumn Price increase FAQ's

Well no - when BT put their prices up at the end of the year, several ISP's will take their opportunity to put a few increases through.
It wouldn't be a Cartel if they didn't.  Cheesy

I think the speedy payment from TT is a really good idea, if you pay your landline/broadband bill within 24hrs of it arriving in your inbox, they give you 15% off.

Re: Autumn Price increase FAQ's

I think it's unlikely Plusnet will increase prices yet again this year - their June/Sep increases are surely it for the year.
