Re: Autumn Price increase FAQ's

I meant prices prior to the recession (around 2007) and still ongoing.
I think we will hit the next recession before the next boom.  Smiley

You're clearly trolling, again.
I think when you factor in line rental + call costs, I pay less now than 10 years ago. The main difference has to be the calling packages and inclusive calls.

Re: Autumn Price increase FAQ's

If you factor in advances in technology of course we should all be paying a lot less than ten years ago.
But, leaving aside irrelevant rising speeds, we are clearly not.

I cannot remember exact figures but before mobile phones got so popular I remember this.
local calls used to be cheaper than national calls, now its like local calls have been dragged up to national call price and still cost more than 10 years ago
connection fees didnt used to exist at retail.
inclusive call packages either didnt exist or were not pushed so much
landline call costs used to be a fraction of mobile call costs.
I remember line rental of sub £10 a month
local call rate been at 1p min
national 3-5p min
calls also had a peak and off peak cost
now its possible for heavy users who use for dozens of hours every month the new packages are cheaper due to the inclusivity, but I think for light to moderate users things are worse, this is if you like me consider the call costs to be inflated for the purpose of making people sign up to a call package.

Re: Autumn Price increase FAQ's

Line rental of sub £10 a month must be more than 10 years ago. I remember it was like that in the late 1990s. We know the wholesale cost of line rental from 2006 onwards, so no one would have been selling line rental below this.

Re: Autumn Price increase FAQ's

yes I am talking about 10+ years ago.
I havent really took much notice of call rates and line rentals until the past 2-3 years or so..  So from 10 or so years ago until about 2-3 years ago I stopped taking notice, but between those times seems a huge difference.
I have always assumed the number of people using fixed landlines for voice is dropping significantly due to mobile phones, and as a result call costs skyrocket as shareholders refuse to accept lower revenue, I also think now call packages are used as a way to increase rental payments, and to make call packages attractive they have to make costs of calls unattractive.  The cost of calls is so high now on landlines even quite light users can benefit from a call package.  Suggesting the quoted call costs are massively inflated.  Its the modern market and how its gone.
Mobile phones have gone the other way, as popularity increases costs have come down.  I remember when calls were 35p a min on mobiles. Now they cheaper then landlines.

Isn't that because the way calls are now routed has changed from the wires bound system of yore?
No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.

Re: Autumn Price increase FAQ's

That maybe the case, but all calls to PN (from their published numbers) are meant to be free from a PN landline , i think that what Hairy McBiker is getting at?

Re: Autumn Price increase FAQ's

Indeed they should - I was assuming he didn't have a PN phone line. But there's 0800 013 2632 in any case, as quoted in the post, so why didn't he use that one?

Re: Autumn Price increase FAQ's

He shouldn't have to, as PN is his telephony provider.

Re: Autumn Price increase FAQ's

Yes I have my phone with PN, calls to PN support are SUPPOSED TO BE FREE. I have raised a ticket to complain about it.
I could have used the 0800 number but I didn't thinking it would NOT COST ME ANYTHING ANYWAY.
That is 2 problems in the past 24 hours, both related. I have a 10 day get out of my new contract I maybe using it  Angry

Re: Autumn Price increase FAQ's

You know. I was waiting for this - All the half price BB they are giving to people currently on £15.95 has to come from somewhere.
I understand there is a 30 days period to leave but I also wonder if the migrations that do occur and are on FTTC will now attract the 1 month contract with the new providers?
