@Hobo - looking at the graphs I've seen you should, based on 38dB attenuation, get just over 10Mbps so worthwhile doing  Smiley

I have now had a reply from CS after my querying their initial response

I have moved your line onto the upto 20mb system. Please reboot your router just once, and if no change in speed occurs, allow 72 hours before rebooting once more and retest.
The reason my colleague mentioned that there may be no increase in speed, is that results from the 21CN service have been fairly mixed. Generally speaking, if you have a speed above 3Mb on the old *mb system then you should see some increase, but the lower the original speed, the lower the increase or the likelyhood of any increase at all. As you have a 6Mb line at present however, you should get a reasonable increase, but we cannot necessarily guarantee this.

So far no increase, will reboot after switching the router off overnight and check and keep an eye on my router speeds over the next few days.

Re: 20Mb on Value

@pierre_pierre Based on your 17dB attenuation graphs suggest you could get near the 20Mbps so should easily get the 15Mbps BT indicate.
Sorry the graphs are on a private forum or would post the link.

I didn't believe they could make the change from ADSL1(upto 8Mb) to ADSL2+(upto 20Mb) instantly!!, AFAIK it needs a BT Wholesale order and will take about 24 hours if you are already on 21CN.
Edit: you can confirm when it HAS been changed by checking the modulation type as indicated in pp's post

when you've been changed it should say 'DSL Type:  G.992.5 annex A'

Re: 20Mb on Value

I was moved over at 9am today.
First set of stats showed a mass of errors but I assumed these could have been due to router trying to log in from a different source.
First speed test using existing profile showed a 50% increase in upload speeds.
Stats after reboot.

Re: 20Mb on Value

One point that springs to mind is that I automatically have an increased upload speed that I don't really need - I thought this had to be requested as default was the same as 20CN.

Hi nadger,
Could be my bad there as I raised your order for the upgrade. Would you like me to put a cap on the upstream?

Re: 20Mb on Value

I also note that SN Margin Up is half what it' s been for the past 109 days on 20CN where it was a steady 15 dB.
As it hasn't crashed on me I'm happy thus far.

Re: 20Mb on Value

Upstream sync speed is controlled by a target noise margin just like downstream (both 6dB initially). When upstream is uncapped the upstream sync speed increases until the noise margin reduces to the target value. So one expects to see a value around 6dB.
If upstream sync speed is capped, it can't go above 448kbps so once that speed is reached noise margin will increase and upstream noise margins over 10dB are normal. Upstream noise margin values with upstream sync speed capped don't normally vary much. If they did it is probably a hint of voice frequency troubles with the line, and that is likely to be picked up as a voice fault.

Re: 20Mb on Value

All very confusing  Cry
Plusnet site says my IP profile is 21,000 Kbps  Shocked
BT tester gives download speed faster than the IP profile they quote ( 7150 is in line with sync speed)
Quote
Download speed achieved during the test was - 7710 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 1000-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8632 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 712 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7150 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 14.96:24.09:60.95 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.

Router has been up for a day so trying to avoid a reboot for time being.

Re: 20Mb on Value

Hi nadger,
I would have said your DS sync is a 'smidgin' low for that attenuation
Quote
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:  714 / 8,632
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB]:  15.90 / 22.03
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]:  12.5 / 20.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]:  23.0 / 39.5

Kitz estimates at 9568 for a 39db atten. It will be interesting to see if capping the Upstream has an effect on the DS sync.
As you might guess, I'm also on Value (20CN) and watching this and OldJim's move to 21CN to see how the transition to 21CN and ADSL2+ works out.

Re: 20Mb on Value

This was this mornings speedtest.

As you say I could get slightly higher figures but not complaining for my type of usage.
This was test from 20CN prior to transfer

Re: 20Mb on Value

Yes, as you say, nothing to complain about.
I just intrigued to see how much effect an uncapped upstream has on the downstream.
What was your DS sync on 20CN ?

That's the default value that's set when a customer is first moved to ADSL2+ and doesn't get changed until we received a line speed delta report from BT Wholesale. Whilst we're waiting for one, I've manually set your profile at 7150kbps so our site should now match the data returned by a BT Speedtest.
