orange light, flashing B

Hi all,
I am currently a student in a rented property, this morning around 6am the internet went very slow and proceeded to go stable orange on the router and a flashing red b symbol appeared. We have spoken to the plusnet customer support and she said the internet would be on around 7PM (but to give it leniency!) as she said it was an outage in my area (which is not true because a few of my friends who have plusnet were completely fine). I have tried every single trouble shooting technique given by the forums and on the website, but I have also noticed that my openreach modem has no power to it, could this be the issue?

@jayy_kx Welcome to the forums. Are you on Full Fibre or FTTC?

Re: orange light, flashing B

@jab1 , Thank you! As far as i am aware i have full fibre (unsure where to check). I have an ECI OR Modem, and a hub one of that helps too.

Re: orange light, flashing B

If you have an ECI modem and a HUB1, I sincerely doubt you are on Full Fibre - that product is supplied via an ONT and (usually) a Hub2.

Re: orange light, flashing B

I do apologise, this is just what the landlord said. But basically the ONT has no power running through it as the power light id not on, and i forgot to clarify that we have no cables that are connected to that.

Re: orange light, flashing B

I'm still confused - can you take pictures of your setup and post them, please?

Sorry for some reason I’m unable to properly embed images into this forum from my phone. Also i do apologise modems and anything internet hardware related is not my expertise 😅😅

Re: orange light, flashing B

Thanks for those pictures - should have realised you wouldn't be able to post pictures if you are using the mobile version of the forum.

That looks a very strange setup to me - I suggest you wait until tomorrow when, hopefully, a more informed Community member can advise. Sorry - I'm out of ideas.

Re: orange light, flashing B

@jayy_kx   if you have no lights on the ONT then you are not going to get internet, and is why your router is flashing red.

Have you checked the power connection to the ONT - is it loose or even switched off a the mains socket?

You need to get it r.eported and a replacement powersupply and/or ONT to get you back on line

Re: orange light, flashing B

@Mustrum , when i checked it around an hour ago it seemed fine, wasn’t loose or nothing neither did myself or my house mates touch it because it’s just something we don’t want to play with. And within that area all sockets are completely intact and powered on.

Re: orange light, flashing B

@Mustrum  This is not an FTTP service so there is no ONT, the picture shows an Openreach modem that is not in use as there are no cables connected to it, it is a copper FTTC service connected to the Plusnet Hub.

Re: orange light, flashing B

@RealAleMadrid   good point well made!!

Should have looked closer at the pic rather than go by what the OP said!

Maybe this BT Service checker will give more info if the fault has been cleared in the area https://www.bt.com/help/check-service-status

Re: orange light, flashing B

@Mustrum I do apologise about some of the misleading information i might have said, not my area of expertise and when i’m not in a uni house i use VM so i have no idea at all about all of this 😅😅. Unfortunately with me being a student in a rented place I can’t log into my landlords BT services to check the outage, but from what my next door neighbours told me (both on plusnet) that their internet works fine.

Re: orange light, flashing B

@jayy_kx   no one is asking you to log into anyone's BT account.

The link I shared is just a tool that gives the service status on your line - all you need is the phone number.
