If it is due to the wireless signal, there are tweaks that can be done to improve it.

I can test the wired connection once I have finished work.
I mean dont get me wrong 18mbps is far better than the 3mbps I was getting yesterday. I am just not sure how long it takes the fiber connection to reach the optimum speed after install(which was 1pm yesterday).
Maybe I am trying to run before I can walk but according to chris from plusnet im connected at 65mb.

Needs to be a wired test to get accurate results , too many factors can affect wireless speeds.
Just ran a BTW test with a wired connection
Download speed(mbps) 60.04
Upload speed(mbps) 11.65
Ping Latency(ms) 40.50
Is there any way to improve my wireless connection from
Download speed(mbps) -17.97
Upload Speed(Mbps) - 12.38
Ping Latency(ms) - 45.38
Thanks

He's with PlusNet, not BT. The speed test he posted above clearly show's he's on fibre...

On my laptop I get between 28 and 40Mb on wireless, the wife's laptop gets 36-42Mb and my wired connection gets 65Mb speed tests.
My older laptop on Wireless "G" would struggle to get 20Mb/s

Yes I'd say im getting fiber as where I live, you only get about 3mbps on adsl broadband.
SO with a 60mbps wired and a 18mbps wireless I would say its definalty fibre

First thing I'd recommend doing is checking the wireless channels where you use the wireless and then changing the channel on your router to the one least congested. You can get wireless scanning apps for most smartphones, just have a look in the relevant app store (assuming you have access to a smartphone), if not you'll likely be able to get one for a PC or Mac.
There's details on how to do that, along with some other tips, on our support pages here: http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/wireless_broadband/wireless_signal.shtml
Hope that helps.
