Want to try the latest firmware in case it improves things
Just coming back on this - never good to leave things open.......
The router has now been connected (sync'ed) for almost exactly a week and is in use today for the troublesome VPN connection, which is working "reasonably well".
No suspicious symptoms and the router is behaving normally.  Cool
Though the IT support for the VPN-enabled laptop did make some (unspecified) changes late last week, saying "it should be OK now" - famous last words, especially from IT.  Roll_eyes
Sadly, 2 near-simultaneous changes proves diddlysquat.

Re: Technicolor Software

10.2.2.B (for non-USB versions) is more stable on the ADSL side, upstream in particular.

Re: Technicolor Software

I would have said that the really big improvement is bit swapping
I didn't see any change in upstream but then again mine is interleaved so rate limited

Re: Technicolor Software

I not so sure this rate limiting Upstream is just down to Interleaving, I've seen a few inconsistencies I haven't had time to get to the bottom of yet.

Re: Technicolor Software

I am indeed on 10.2.2.B and non-interleaved. Upstream was certainly "capped" when I was interleaved (around 880K?)
Nothing really looks any different but I haven't looked at bit-swapping for example as, apart from the VPN issue, I had no problems.
Still find the 6dB upstream minimum annoying though when DS is very happy at 3dB, but that's a different issue not for this thread.

Re: Technicolor Software

I've seen stats with speeds above 888k upstream where there is interleaving, but yes, not really this thread.

What tool are you using to monitor that?
I used to use DMT on my old Netgear routers but it doesn't seem to talk properly to (or understand) the Technicolor ones and I haven't investigated.
I use DSLstats for a "quick peek" occasionally, that's all.

Re: Technicolor Software

I'd better look at it again then, for some reason (that I no longer remember) it wouldn't work with my PN-supplied router, that's why I had a play with DSLstats.  Undecided

Re: Technicolor Software

Try RouterStatsLite. DSLstats fills the router log with login entries and you'll lose any other useful data.

Re: Technicolor Software

Thanks but I've just downloaded the latest full version of RS and it's all working fine.  Cool
I realised I was using an outdated version that was OK with Netgear but not all the PN ones.
Interesting to watch all the bitswapping again, there's a fair bit of it around the "crevasses" in the bits/tone graph.

Sorry, get my brain in gear, switching between too many threads Embarrassed  RSLite won't give any Bit Swap data.

An intriguing update on this.
The VPN connection has been working reasonably well, last used on Tuesday with just the odd "glitch".
BUT this morning I noticed everything was running slow. Did a few speed tests and got silly pings up to 250ms and downloads under 1mbps (normally 15).
The "official" BT test gave a download lower than the upload!  Shocked
Checked the router stats, sync fine, very few errors, been up for over a week, minimal bitswapping, all looking good.  Huh
No widespread complaints on the forum so decided to power off the router and wait a couple of minutes before reconnecting.
And all was back to normal.  Grin
So, I'm suspecting the newer firmware still has some "issues".  Lips_are_sealed

Re: Technicolor Software

Have you tried a Gateway hop? I can assure you the newer firmware has generally less issues than the older firmware in most circumstances.

Re: Technicolor Software

I didn't check what gateway I was on before/after, will try to remember if it happens again.
What's the easiest way to hop gateways?
And would the gateway affect the BT speed test? http://www.speedtest.btwholesale.com/PerformanceTesterWS/diagnostics.do
