Re: Technicolor Software

I see; logging in twice to the router is not something I would do and I don't have RS running constantly anyway.

Thanks chaps, all done.  Smiley
Quite painless but I can agree with the advice to backup your current config first as mine didn't load back either.
Also, Win7 needs a different version of the installer than the one listed.

Not sure where you looked but I saw (and used) the W7 installer that was specifically pointed out in the process description.
As OJ noted above:

Re: Technicolor Software

To be absolutely clear backing up the Config is primarily for the purpose or restoring it with existing firmware should an upgrade fail, and a factory reset be needed.
Configs from 8.4.xxxxxx firmware are different from 10.2.xxxxxx firmware and don't seem to be compatible.
The need to use a different installer for Win7 is mentioned in the "How to Upgrade" notes, but it could be clearer.

Re: Technicolor Software

Interesting about the configs.
After the upgrade the connection was dead. Restored the saved config and it jumped back into life immediately. Still working as expected although my upload speed is still often down in the 0.01 0.02 area. I've seen quite a few similar upload speed problem posts recently so something is going on. I did have a few upload tests giving me a dizzy 1Mb+ yesterday but back down early this morning. Currently OK so intermittent.

Re: Technicolor Software

I hope you went off-line to do the upgrade and when it was completed IIRC a reboot is required. If you did that and then when you connected the line nothing happened, is that what you are saying?

Re: Technicolor Software

Morning
All I did was close all apps down, especially the browser. I assumed that the upgrade process would programatically manage the router, perform the upgrade, then fire it up again. All seemed to go OK but as I said I did need to import my saved config. The reason for that was that after the upgrade my 'home network' map was empty but after the restore it all came back as before.
All looks OK and the firmware version is showing the 10x version.

Previously you stated

which is different to what you appear to be saying now.
Did you do the upgrade using a wireless connection?

Re: Technicolor Software

Hi
Nope via a CAT6 connection. It does say not to use wireless (for obvious reasons)
Immediately after the upgrade finished I connected to the router via the browser and noted that the 'home network' map was empty. I was aware of an issue as my wireless security camera, situated right next to me, was flashing red. I did no more investigation but followed the advice posted by someone else about backing up and restoring the config, should that be necessary, and immediately the network area was repopulated, the camera light turned green and all was, and still is OK.

Re: Technicolor Software

Yes, I've got an odd issue with my home network that I haven't investigated/resolved yet.
As the config was lost I had to set up my wireless network again to my requirements - basically a different name and security credentials. All "normal" devices (PC's, laptops, iPad, iPhone) connected OK without intervention.
But I have a couple of TP-Link TL-WR702n "nano" devices that I use to connect to the wireless network and present a standard LAN interface to various devices (e.g. PVR's or PC's I'm working on) where a standard LAN internet connection is preferred but running a cable from the router is too much hassle.
Neither of these seemed to work; they apparently connected but didn't provide an internet connection, not sure why yet as I didn't look at the details.

But today they do!
Maybe some sort of timeout expired, possibly a DHCP lease issue?

Re: Technicolor Software

I've got a range of Netgear and TPLink devices around the house as well.
I suggest you hit the 'pair' button on the master unit (by the router) and then 'pair' one of the devices to see if they talk to each other. You should also have the TPLink small CD they supply that will allow you to check the wireless config (amongst other settings). Also, if you have a smartphone you can install 'WiFi Analyser' to see if they are transmitting a signal.
I used WPS to get the router SSID and password onto the TPLink wireless devices, maybe check your router still has the same SSID and password ?
Quite a few things to check unfortunately.
