Quote from: Word It would be too simplistic to say that as I was getting around 50% ± of the "up to 8M" connection that I could expect around 50%± of 24M but to actually get around the same after several reboots of the modem indicates that there is a long way to go yet.
Doesn't work like that unfortunately. ADSL2+ works best on really good short lines, if you can get above about 4.5-5Mbps on ADSL then you'll see an increase in speed with ADSL2+. If you're below about 1.5Mbps again you'll see an increase in speed. But for lines between about 1.5Mbps to 4.5Mbps the actual speed is unlikely to increase by much. Have a look at the graph here:
http://www.internode.on.net/residential/internet/home_adsl/extreme/
If you're in that middle band then ADSL2+ doesn't really do much to increase the speed unfortunately.
That's disappointing to hear, I was kind of hoping for a bit more speed up and down but it seems I'm at the optimum
Note that the link you posted is Australian.

Doing some further test on my line last night around 11pm my speed seems to have dropped to around the 7Mbps which is not too unlike what I was getting before.
That is surprising as the first day my speed was over 10Mbps. Do PlusNet need to update any profiles on their end? Under "High Speed Broadband" in my account settings it still reports a 7000 BRAS profile. Does this need changing or does it happen automatically?
Any help or advice will be welcome. Thanks
M

I rebooted the router this morning, after which the Sync Speed (up/down) was 835/13,879 kbps and the SN Margin (up/down) was 8.5/3.5 db. The connection was lost again at about 12:10 today and now the Sync Speed (up/down) is 450/14,292 kbps and the SN Margin (up/down) is 23.0/2.0 dB. I find it really odd that the downstream rate keeps on increasing and the SN Margin keeps on reducing regardless of the fact that the error count on the router is increasing as a result. Surely if this continues my line will become more and more unstable. Hopefully the rate adaption system will get there in the end.
Having said this, since my IP Profile increased to 10,000 kbps and prior to today, my download speeds have been consistently between 8,900 and 9,679 kbps and my upload speeds have been between 670 and 698 kbps. Today, download speeds have been about 9,300 kbps and upload speeds have been 376 kbps.

Quote from: pnf After disconnecting, the Sync Speed (up/down) was 835/13,964 kbps and the SN Margin (up/down) was 9.5/2.5 dB. I tried restarting and rebooting the router a number of times in an attempt to increase the downstream SN Margin but it only increased to 3.5 dB. Subsequently, the downstream SN Margin on the connection fluctuated between 3.5 and 4.0 dB but the connection remained alive even though the error count was increasing.
21CN now has a 3dB target SNR profile. If your line is stable at 6dB for long enough (and long enough depends on how long since the last change and what else it's done) then it will try you on a 3dB profile. If it's unstable then it should undo the change the next day.

I went live last night, and without changing any router setings, my stats were as follows:
DSL Status: Connected
DSL Modulation Mode: MultiMode
DSL Path Mode: Interleaved
Downstream Rate: 15226 kbps
Upstream Rate: 1085 kbps
Downstream Margin: 2147483646 db
Upstream Margin: 5 db
Downstream Line Attenuation: 27 db
Upstream Line Attenuation: 7 db
Downstream Transmit Power: 12 db
Upstream Transmit Power: 23 db
Following that, I changed the modulation to ADSL2+ and tried again:
DSL Status: Connected
DSL Modulation Mode: ADSL2+
DSL Path Mode: Interleaved
Downstream Rate: 15226 kbps
Upstream Rate: 1085 kbps
Downstream Margin: 3 db
Upstream Margin: 5 db
Downstream Line Attenuation: 27 db
Upstream Line Attenuation: 7 db
Downstream Transmit Power: 12 db
Upstream Transmit Power: 23 db
Speedtests are sitting somewhere between 7-10 Mbps at the mo, but the connection hasn't been very stable yet - am waiting for it to even out, will have another look tonight.

Quote Downstream Margin: 2147483646 db
Seems rather high!

I wasn't aware that the target SNR profile was 3 dB on ADSL2+, I thought that it was 6 dB as with ADSL1. I had been searching for technical information about ADSL2+ that would explain things such as this but I didn't uncover anything.

Since switching over to the ADSL2+ service at 12:10 on 4th December, I have noticed that my line has disconnected at approximately 12:10 each day, except for one day. Does the rate adaption system resync the line every 24 hours subject to certain conditions being met on the line?

The second paragraph in the previous reply concerns a separate issue from speed comparisons. I have added that paragraph to a cross reference in the Questions thread so that discussions relating to that issue logically fit in the one place. Please keep the present thread for speed comparisons.

Hi Dave
Thanks for updating that for me. I did some further test over the weekend and I was getting some comfortable speeds of 10-13Mbps and a reasonable upload of 800Kbs.
Will post some graphs tonight when I get back home.
Cheers for all your help.
Michael
