@Dan_the_Van I would concur wholeheartedly with your attenuation comment - unless the line length is physically changed, those values should remain fairly constant.

I was going to add there is like a high resistant joint somewhere, if not already I would connect the Hub directly to the master socket as internal wiring can also cause issue with the line attenuation.

Good call on the MS, @Dan_the_Van , although looking at the DSL figures in the logs, I'm still inclined to be suspecting the OR external network. I could be wrong.

@IJJ I suspect @Dan_the_Van actually meant the test socket behind the master socket faceplate. Is your MS a single or dual-socket one?

OK. I would still suggest you tried the test socket, via a filter.

@jab1 so I think it's an NTE5 type. Are you saying remove front plate and plug the filter into the socket behind the faceplate?

@IJJ The NTE5 is the dual-socket type, can't remember the single socket designation. Yes, I am saying plug the filter into the test socket.

@jab1 I think the dual is NTE5c but could be wrong - telecoms not my field. Further improvement when direct to the socket

Interesting stuff can be found from event log files, the first DSL Link Up message is, this will be 2023
08:24:34, 22 Dec. DSL Link Up: Down Rate=32400kbps, Up Rate=10271kbps; SNR Margin Down=9.2dB, Up=6.4dB
The was the last time your connection synced to 40000kbps, this will be 2024
18:58:11, 28 Jan. DSL Link Up: Down Rate=40000kbps, Up Rate=12461kbps; SNR Margin Down=8.9dB, Up=6.1dB
The speed dropped
10:14:46, 19 Feb. DSL Link Up: Down Rate=20388kbps, Up Rate=1127kbps; SNR Margin Down=6.2dB, Up=6.0dB
The fastest from that date was
06:23:44, 13 Apr. DSL Link Up: Down Rate=32599kbps, Up Rate=864kbps; SNR Margin Down=2.7dB, Up=6.0dB
Now it is
15:18:05, 12 Jul. DSL Link Up: Down Rate=55898kbps, Up Rate=12092kbps; SNR Margin Down=3.3dB, Up=6.3dB
For DSL Link DOWN there has been 17 since first switch on - the previous to today's DSL link down as a result of the test was
05:23:01, 02 Jun. DSL Link Down: duration was 550370 seconds
There have been a number of power off over the period which distorts the DSL connection time.

@Dan_the_Van Not to the master that I can see. One line into the house that terminates at the master. There's a black box that runs from outside the house to the summer house but that is connected where the overhead cable meets the house. I think the previous owners had a second line for business.

There is another improvement using the test socket, if it is hidden out of sight I would leave the DSL filter connected to the test socket.
You are thinking of master socket 5c with a MK4 faceplate having the two ports.

Yeah, there's a great big bookshelf in front of it....nearly gave myself a hernia shifting it 🤣
Thanks for all your help @jab1 @Marsh and @Dan_the_Van . I'll leave the filter in the master and keep an eye on it.
