see below
DSL Status: Connected
DSL Modulation Mode: ADSL2
DSL Path Mode: Interleaved
Downstream Rate: 3369 kbps
Upstream Rate: 444 kbps
Downstream Margin: 3 db
Upstream Margin: 18 db
Downstream Line Attenuation: 58 db
Upstream Line Attenuation: 16 db
Downstream Transmit Power: 12 db
Upstream Transmit Power: 17 db
Is there anything i can do to improve this ? as even with the higher synch it doesnt seem much quicker
Or do i just need to put up with BT and the poor signal you get if you dont actually live in the exchange

A quick test shows upstream attenuation to be 32dB, which is more like it. your sync is 3369 because the SNR is 1dB. I've raised your profile to 2900 to allow a bit extra speed but I wouldn't be too surprised to see it drop a little bit when the SNR increases, as I'm not sure that is sustainable.

Quote from: spraxyt If you put your phone number and postcode into Kitz's ADSL Checker here how far does that give as distance by road from your exchange? Distance by road is often a good indicator of line length.
By Road: 4.51 km

Kitz's calculator predicts a sync speed (downstream rate) of 3200kbps with 6dB noise margin on ADSL2. Your sync speed is slightly higher than that but downstream noise margin is only 1dB. Something is amiss somewhere and it has already been mentioned that the upstream attenuation is not being reported correctly.
Do you have a different router you could try?

I think the way forward is to raise a low speed fault at http://faults.plus.net. Part of that process will ask you to try a different router which you won't be able to do. In this case you can only continue anyway and add a note that you don't have a spare router to try.
When the faults team check your line if they think a router fault is the most likely cause of the problem they may offer to lend you one for diagnostic purposes.

stats are
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3058 kbps 444 kbps
Line Attenuation 60.5 db 35.5 db
Noise Margin 3.4 db 19.5 db
still roughly the same fluctuations as the old router on the noise margin
any ideas ?

Although getting a higher synch since moving to ADSL2+ the noise margin downstream seems to fluctuate quite wildly sometimes going to zero as if the line is synching at a speed it can handle
