Router Change

Hello,
I'm trying to replace a netgear router and am having some issues. The netgear router wifi has slowly become worse. The wifi range seems to be around 3 feet now. So I need to sit next to it to use it.
So I have a replacement router. A linksys wag54gs.
The wifi on this router is quite good. I can connect to it throughout the house. Unfortunately the linksys router will not connect to the internet.
I am using connection settings which were emailed to me a good while ago. I am wondering if they are correct.
On my account settings I can see my broadband name, this is what I use for the username in PPPoA settings
the password ( i am told ) is the same password I use to login to the plusnet members area. I am using this but the router does not connect to the internet.
Can anyone confirm that the password used to log into the plusnet members area at this address (https://portal.plus.net/my.html?s=0&action=refresh_browser) is the same password I need top type into the PPPoA password box?

Also, there are some other settings in the linksys router ...
Encapsulation: RFC2364 PPPoA
Multiplexing: VC
Qos Type: UBR
Pcr Rate: 0
Scr Rate: 0
Autodetect: enable
Virtual Circuit: 0,38
I cant get into the netgear router as I've forgotten the password. If I reset it I'll have no connection at all Sad
Thank you all.
Mary

Re: Router Change

I use a Linksys, although it's a different model.  Those settings all match mine, but mine also has an additional setting for "DSL Modulation" which I have set to "Multimode".

Re: Router Change

Thank you for the replies.
Yes Jim. I am using the login name in that format. Although this is not named 'login name' on the router. Its called 'User Name' and it is under PPPoA settings. I hope they are one and the same. I managed to find a picture of my linksys router setup page here http://www.karoo-user-group.co.uk/resources/hardware_reviews/images/wag54g/setupa.jpg
I cant seem to find any modulation settings with an option of multimode. Do you know where I can find that?
Thank you both very much
Mary.

Re: Router Change

Looks like you have the WAG54G  (not GS), which apparently doesn't have a setting for DSL modulation.    On the screenshot you seem to have VPI=1 and VCI=50.  These should be 0 and 38.

Re: Router Change

Hello Tony,
Sorry to confuse things. The screenshot was something I just found on the internet. It is not of my router. I wanted to be sure of username and password.
Thank you

Re: Router Change

Fair enough.  Where that screenshot says "your hostname" is where you stick your Plusnet username with "plusdsl.net" on the end.
On the WAG54GS the DSL Modulation setting should be below the VPI/VCI settings, just above User Name.    See Page 8 .. http://downloads.linksys.com/downloads/userguide/1224639070657/WAG54GS-EN_V11_English_User_Guide.pdf...;   As mentioned mine is set to Multimode which I believe means it automatically identifies the correct type.  If you're on old school ADSL (up to 8meg) then the actual mode will be G.DMT,  if you're on newer up to 16meg, then it will be ADSL2 or ADSL2+.  I've always set Linksys to Multimode though, and let it work out for itself.
Can you have a look at the ADSL statistics, this will tell us that at least the ADSL is working?  These can't be reached from the menus but the URL is http://192.168.1.1/setup.cgi?next_file=adsl_driver.htm
