Re: Plusnet outage

I believe that last nights issues will be due to BT wholesale maintenance.
See http://www.plus.net/supportpages.html?a=2
PN use the BT Colindale, BT Faraday, Stepney & BT Colombo nodes to connect into the BT Wholesale network.
Thus, whenever BT perform maintenance on those nodes PN customers can be disconnected.

EDIT to include Stepney.

If you lose PPP at that sort of time of the morning it's usually due to maintenance.

Re: Plusnet outage

Any news on why the major Plusnet outage last week?
It'd be reassuring they know what caused it / what has been done to prevent it from reoccurring!

Re: Plusnet outage

My connection has been very slow over much of today and yesterday.
In fact it's been a bit flaky ever since the outage.
I don't want to report a fault if this is a system-wide problem. Undecided

Re: Plusnet outage

@ Bookworms - Is it FTTC or ADSL? If ADSL, can you post your line stats from your router?
@ Justin7 - Hopefully, Kelly will give an update.

Re: Plusnet outage

Thanks Andy, I am curious to read what caused the outage.
Thankfully the connection has remained stable since.

ADSL.
Here you are (I'm guessing these are not great):
--------------------------------------------

DSL Connection
Link Information

Maximum Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 856 / 9,048

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 20.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 24.0 / 41.5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 4.0 / 9.5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / IFTN
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

Most of the time the connection feels stable enough but every so often things crawl to a halt.
The interface of the router is quite sluggish at the best of times.

Re: Plusnet outage

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I'd be grateful if someone could comment on the above stats.
To my untrained eye they look quite bad.

Re: Plusnet outage

The speed isn't bad for your connection but it's with a Target SNRM of 9dB by the looks of it, so could be better. The ES & CRC errors are not good, in fact bad and will be slowing your throughput a lot, and are probably the cause of drops and raised Target SNRM.
Can I suggest you start your own thread on this board and post the latest stats, also run  the BTw Performance test (ignore the red preamble except make sure no other programs are using the Internet) and at the end of the first run, click the Further Diagnostics button, enter just your Phone number and Run the Further Diagnostics Test.
Do a Copy and Paste of the results and post them (no need to grab an image). Also your Current Line speed (Login required) but don't post your phone number!

Re: Plusnet outage

Cheers, I'll start a new thread later.
I only posted here because I thought the slowdowns in my connection might be related to the more general recent outage.

It would be really nice if we could have an explanation of what really happened.
