Plusnet Firewall error

There seems to be an issue with the Broadband Firewall. If I try to change the setting to anything other than 'High' I get an error saying
"An error occurred. Please try again soon. If the problem persists, please let us know"

This has happened in the past, unfortunately it means I'm now stuck on the high setting and can't use my vpn.

Thanks,

Paul.

@kissinuk

Try a factory reset on the hub by pushing a paperclip or similar in the reset hole. Hold the switch closed until you get a green light.

Re: Plusnet Firewall error

Hi,

I don't use the PN router,  I've always used my own. It's the actual PN firewall that's not working though,  this one:

Just need to change a setting and try to save to replicate.

Re: Plusnet Firewall error

Hey,

I think I've identified the issue, and in my efforts to fix I've managed to turn it off, but I can't change the settings either. I've flagged it up to see if we can investigate further, but for now your VPN should work.

Re: Plusnet Firewall error

Thanks for the update & for switching it off. Would be great to get it fixed, I like to switch it back on when I'm not using the vpn.

If it helps I've found the thread from last time it happened:

Re: Plusnet Firewall error

@kissinuk

Are you using a VPN client or are you hosting a VPN server?

Puzzled why you see the need to turn your account based firewall to FULL when not using your VPN,  leaving it set to OFF should cause you no problems as any router built-in firewall should provide the required deny rules for unsolicited inbound connections.

There has been some changes to the account based firewall since 2021, this was posted by @Gandalf August 2023

Re: Plusnet Firewall error

Hosting my own VPN server, but not used very often. Reason I change it is that it allows me to completely close off that port while I'm out & about (e.g. on holiday while away from the router). But I can still open it back up if I did need to connect at any time.

Re: Plusnet Firewall error

Fix

I got an incident INC04725610 raised yesterday and should be fixed now, could you try it again?

(Should be working as I've just tested it)

Re: Plusnet Firewall error

Hosting my own VPN server

For what it is worth: I host two Wireguard VPN servers (live and backup), rather than the default inbound port I have assigned  UDP ports not associated with VPN connections which would be more secure.
