Re: Please excuse cross posting. Game problem: Router log enclosed

Hi,
This is a graph of your connection:
<img src="http://ccgi.psmith12.plus.com/visradius/generated/image13609286881841.png"/>
All these connections are showing that you have caused the disconnection, I've spoken with our faults team who have confirmed that the way your are disconnecting/gateway hopping will have no effect on your line and I'll also have a chat with my colleague regarding your ticket response.
It will however be beneficial as he mentioned to see a stable connection for 48 hours so we can see if anything is happening or to try and establish any sort of pattern.

Re: Please excuse cross posting. Game problem: Router log enclosed

Hi, Chris.
Ah, yes, I can see from that graph that it does differentiate between session close and connection failure. That's good to see, so I'm further reassured that the PN system doesn't identify my shutting down and gate hopping as line 'drops' (which is what I consider connection failures). I can't really see it on the graph (maybe you can zoom in on your end for greater detail), but there was one day where I gate hopped several times in quick succession because I couldn't get off any of the PCN servers. It was when I'd said that suddenly my speed tests started performing pretty much perfectly with very smooth graphs and the best speed I'd ever had, with the upload part starting and ending without delays (still had game problems though, which is why I was hopping). I gave up trying in the end, however, because it seemed like I was locked into the PCN servers. Anyway, I waffle ...

Yes, I can actually appreciate that. Just wish I could put the router in a sound-proof box so that I didn't have to listen to the whistling it makes.

How loud is this 'whistling'?
We've looked at two cases of this and could not replicate it when we received the router here. Is there anyway you could record the sound?

Re: Please excuse cross posting. Game problem: Router log enclosed

Oh, I think by the average person's standards it's not loud at all. In fact I think most people wouldn't be able to hear it, Chris. It's more me; I have very sensitive hearing, particularly to such things, so I can hear it all the time - and when I turn my computer off it's all I can hear. I guess it's like TV's used to be years ago, when all of them whistled like this just from being plugged in. If I were to record it (I can't when my computer is off), I would have to process and normalise the recording, thus distorting the actual volume, so it probably wouldn't accurately reflect what it's like 'for real', and certainly not for me. I don't even know if my microphone would pick it up (and even then that would be pre-processed through a microphone amp).

Re: Please excuse cross posting. Game problem: Router log enclosed

Actually, I have just managed to record it, but I had to place the microphone on the router to pick it up adequately (and without having to do a lot of processing on the file to isolate it). I also spoke from about 8" from the microphone before normalising the file to -16db so you can compare my voice volume with the volume of the whistle. I don't know if you still want to hear that, and how I would send it to you if you do. Either way, it's no loss. I can send the file or bin it, whichever.

Hi,
I've dropped a ticket on your account #65936072 if you could attach the file to it then we'd take a look into that.
Thanks,

Hi Chris,
Done.
EDIT. Incidentally, the drop I just had at 17:37:45 wasn't me. So if the team were testing again it may please them to know that I was winning my game when it was disconnected. GRRR. lol

Re: Please excuse cross posting. Game problem: Router log enclosed

I want to just check with you:
Firstly, thanks Matthew for the call. My apologies for the slight weirdness on the phone that may have seemed rude on my part. I was trying to concentrate on more than one thing and so didn't properly respond to you. lol really sorry about that.
Well, I just wanted to double check as I'd said to you on the phone that I am surprised that the noise my router is making is considered a fault that merits a replacement. Has it definitely been noted what I said above about the volume and how I had to record it? And further, that I have said that I think most people wouldn't hear it. I just can't help thinking the replacement is going to make the same sound. We'll see, I guess.
I also want to check again. Was the drop on my line mentioned in the edit in the above post noted, and if so can you confirm whether it was spontaneous or caused by agent testing of the line?
EDIT:
Replacement router has just arrived, so I guess I'll find out soon enough if this one whistles too. ...

Re: Please excuse cross posting. Game problem: Router log enclosed

lol Replacement router whistles too. In fact, I think it's a touch louder. I think, then, that they probably all do and I'm just in a minority of people who can hear it. Anyway, I don't think sending the replacement was a waste of time. Already I can see it is far more responsive than the first. The web interface pages load much quicker, as do telnet responses. The few pages I've tested on the internet are also loading very quickly so far. Moreover, speed test pages load slightly quicker and function properly for the time being. I'll see how it runs over the next few days, I guess. Just from the little I've seen I'm hopeful things will be much better with this one (famous last words? lol).

Re: Please excuse cross posting. Game problem: Router log enclosed

This is a nightmare. Well, I'm not laughing now. You may note from your logs that in the last few minutes I dropped the line. Yes, I did it. I had to turn my router off without disconnecting first, as I couldn't. The ethernet ports failed, so I couldn't log in to the router. So now I have had to switch back to the first router. Evidently we shall have to see how it runs in terms of the ethernet ports, just to make sure that, as I think, the failure of the ethernet ports was on the replacement router, and not my ethernet card.
EDIT 20-02-13 15.00:
After running my original router again since this post to establish that the ethernet connection was running ok on it (and it has been fine in that regard), I decided to test the replacement router once more just a few minutes ago, so that I could be certain that particular problem was the replacement router. The ethernet ports are definitely knackered; I could get no connection at all, from any of them. Fortunately on this occasion I realised that I could enable the wi-fi from the top button so I was able to log in to the interface to properly disconnect before turning it off. I wish I'd realised that on my first try with it. Can't help wondering if there's something a bit dodgy about the ethernet ports on this router model generally, as that could account for the weirdness I experience with upload speed and speedtests generally, and perhaps my game problems too. Hmm.

Re: Please excuse cross posting. Game problem: Router log enclosed

Still on ticket 65936072 and it's now 7 days since a third router was supposed to have been dispatched to me. I have updated the ticket to point this out. I am getting fed up of looking out for the post man and making daily provisions with pillows so that this router doesn't bang on the hard floor when put through my letter box (I've always thought these routers were badly packaged and far too easily made for postmen to put them through a letterbox when they are so inadequately packaged). I am also increasingly feeling like no third router has been dispatched at all and I'm just being inconvenienced. I didn't even ask for a new router and happened to mention the whistling - that the second, definitely broken one also does; I'm sure any third will whistle, too. This is just wasting my time, messing me around and really annoying me now.

Hi,
Really sorry about this, I've had a look at this and can confirm that the routers has been dispatched not that it makes it any better for you as you still don't have it.
I can only send another one out to you and check that it is correctly dispatched. I'd hope that you get this by the end of the week.

Re: Please excuse cross posting. Game problem: Router log enclosed

Thanks Chris. Understanding they are dispatched 1st class, I think PN need to be ringing PO's neck, then. I will make a point of saying that despite receiving the first and second routers, neither were quite correctly addressed and thinking about it now, it could be misinterpreted by a postperson who is not familiar with this road. I'll send you a PM to make clear what's wrong with my address as it's been put on the routers I have had.
