The release notes for 8.x do mention this issue, those for 10.2.x do not.

Quote from: jelv You could try updating the firmware: http://products.plus-payh.co.uk/firmware/

Thanks. And will the update still have the 'Parental Control' feature (as well as not slowing down the opening of webpages) ?

Quote from: jelv The screen shot I posted further up was from 10.2.2.B although I haven't tried using parental controls. I'm on 20CN ADSL1 so I'm not sure if I would notice a slowdown anyway!
Do you know what the advantages are of the update ?
if it's miniscule, then maybe I should leave things as they are ?

I know when I was with 02, they'd actually removed it from later versions of the software. I hope this isn't the case with PN.

I strongly suspect that O2 removed is precisely because of these slow Internet problems. From speaking to Technicolor, they have no solution to fix this and don't think it will ever get fixed on this product.
There simply isn't enough processing power to compare the application layer of every HTTP packet with the block/allow list.
We've been wondering if we should keep it in, or remove it. What do you think? I think the best option is to leave the feature there, but remove the link to the configuration page in the menu.

Quote from: ejs There is also supposed to be an improved DSL driver
I can confirm that I saw a definite improvement when I upgraded firmware. On the previous firmware I was seeing a frequent loss of sync, upgrading the firmware fixed it. See http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,109919.msg951009.html#msg951009

Lotsof people will have seen speedtests from TBB similar to the following.
.
We've glanced at the headline speed of 73.9 Mbps and though everything must be ok. But look closely and we begin to see speeds more like 24Mbps.
Its only by using multi-threaded mode are we able to get full speeds on this router. Most downloads arent multi-threaded.
If I download a single http file from here. No matter what I do I cant get speeds above 28-30 Mbps.
Ive also tried uploading a file to a remote server I have access to. Its brand new atm and has nothing else on it, my maximum speed either via FTTP or HTTP is 28-30 Mbps.
Why can I not get anything faster than 30Mbps when my connection speed is 80Mbps.
I realise that not everyone may have access to a remote server for testing, but some tools that may be useful are
Tools that may be useful are
Net Meter.
- Set Options to Graph -> Kilobit for UL/DL speeds.
JDs Speedtester.
- Make sure you turn off multi-threading in Menu -> Configuration -> Download -> Tick box at the bottom of window.
ThinkBroadband Test files.
Id appreciate if anyone else can report if they are also seeing similar speed restrictions

While not wishing to be argumentative, have you tried the same test on the same connection with a different router since this is the only way to prove (or otherwise) that the router is the cause (or use a direct PPPoE connection from computer to modem)?
At any given moment in the universe many things happen. Coincidence is a matter of how close these events are in space, time and relationship.

I havent tried a direct pppoe connection as I was under the impression that numerous people have had difficulties setting this up and getting it to work
Hence me asking on here if anyone else is also seeing the same.
