The new skin doesn't work on an 800x600 resolution monitor!

It's designed for the majority of users, which according to our stats, is 1024x768 and above. We're aware it's not quite right in 800x600 and we are looking at improving the experience at that size.

I have to say, the problems you point out Gary are all caused by the resolution being set to 800x600 on your computer.

Yep I agree with you.  Sad

This seems a little strange to me, as I thought that was the standard used when constructing accessible websites, but I confess I'm quite out of touch with what the 'norms' might be.

You are not out of touch.  Wink
But F9 / PlusNet is out of touch.  Sad

I do think all of the points you've raised can be condensed into a single bug:
The new skin doesn't work on an 800x600 resolution monitor!

Re: New Community Site Skin - Testing/Feedback

Apart from some overly large text (which is being worked on), I can't actually see many other problems at 800*600 in IE or Firefox.
Can you post specific links to pages which look weird?

From a quick look (as my eyes are getting sore staring at 800x600):

Minor issue with the content of a blog post and the advert, but other than that it seems to be ok?

No, but it's reminded me that I've got Web Developer Toolbar installed which lets me resize. I've also been looking in IE Cheesy

I'll give you that, but it's wrong at 1024*468 too, so I don't think it's just 800x600 Smiley

Re: New Community Site Skin - Testing/Feedback

Ah! sorry guys, I hadn't been keeping track of this conversation today. I've been updating the 'recent posts' & 'replies to your posts' pages today so you've been talking about a moving target hence why some pages looked odd to some folks and fine to others later on.
I reckon those two pages should be ok on any resolution now.
We're going to add a minimum width to the main content area so that if you make the windows really narrow it doesn't squish the content into a vertical line.
It's true the template doesn't look great at 800x600 but it's still fairly straightforward to use, right?
Thanks for the list of pages that need looking at, Gary. I'll get to those tomorrow.

I think I've fixed this now... no, silly me, forgot about IE Cry and now it looks like I've got it in IE too.

Re: New Community Site Skin - Testing/Feedback

Minimum width is probably the solution to the 800x600 problems which can't be fixed - the user will get a horizontal scroll bar.
I don't think a lot of effort is warranted on the 800x600 resolution; sign up to your local Freecycle group and there's always people giving away 17" monitors that will otherwise go to the tip and I've seen 19 & 21's for free. Not that many people would find the standard fonts too small at 1024x768 on a 17" monitor.
