By drop back down I was referring to DLM not bringing the target SNR down.

Matthew,
You worded it just fine.  It is more a matter that many people get the idea that FIXED means it can never vary EVER.  As with most technology there is a certain context applicable to terms; here means the TARGET used at synch-up time is FIXED.  ...there after it WILL vary.
I know that you know this, but I would guess that the OP does not.

At least it'll be a 6 upon syncing, I'm happy - and I do understand even a 6 wouldn't necessarily 'fix' it, but it all helps..
I haven't forgotten about my other socket, its just getting someone to help move furniture etc
