Half sync issue. Half of normal speed FTTC.

Hello.

I am a new customer to Plusnet. I was switched over form TalkTalk on the 30th of March.

Quick summary: I was regularly getting 47-50Mbps download and now it's 23-27Mbps.

About three/four weeks ago whilst with Talktalk I can't remember what day it was, my internet connection started to drop, come back on, drop and come back as it had done before in the past but. I noticed this time it had slowed down.

Since then no matter what I do I am now seemingly reduced to half the speed of what I was getting before. I firmly believe something is wrong with my line or at the cabinet. Whilst with TalkTalk  couple of years ago an Engineer come out and fitted a Master Socket 5c in my flat (It's the only phone socket) and reset the line etc. I had not real issues up until now. My Desktop is connected directly to the hub.

I have included a couple of screen shots.

Please help.

Many thanks.

@Binz Welcome to the forums. Can you export your Event log, and attach the resulting file to a post, please? Your Technical Log does point to an Openreach problem, but the error log will give more  detail.

This sounds like a faulty line, possibly a leg disconnect.

Try the fault bot - see link below.

Re: Half sync issue. Half of normal speed FTTC.

From the attached Technical Log the SNR is : 23.9 / 17.4 dB suggesting the line should operate faster.

Those SNR figures indicate - given the attenuation - that there is a network fault, so OR intervention is needed.

Re: Half sync issue. Half of normal speed FTTC.

There’s a number of possible matters here.  High SNRM suggests that the line is chronically banded to maintain stability in the presence of frequent disconnections.

That could be a simple bad joint (xDSL can operate with one of the pair wires broken - historically that would result in no dial tone).  Given this is a transfer from TT LLU there could be something awry in the exchange.  Get a fault report raised ASAP.

Re: Half sync issue. Half of normal speed FTTC.

@Townman A quick look at the error log revealed almost constant xDSL drops.

Reported via text, got a replay fault found and about booking an engineer. Fingers crossed.

Sounds as the fault has been around for a good while.  xDSL is fairly resilient in the face of faults … but with degraded speeds.

Re: Half sync issue. Half of normal speed FTTC.

Just an update for anyone interested.

10 out of 10 for Plusnet. Whatever happened on the 14th my speed is now the best it's been since all the time I was with TalkTalk. Nobody visited to check anything, so don't know what was done.

Many thanks.
