Thank for replying
I ran the BT speedtest several times but I kept getting an error message saying the username did not match the telephone number ?
I will try it again in the morning

Hi there,
Your profile is currently set to 2500 so it doesn't look like an issue there.
There are no reported problems at your exchange either, although this doesn't mean that your slow speeds were not down to contention, just that BT aren't aware of any issues.
It's possible that your slow speeds last night were down to our network being out of balance, I'd be interested to see if the problem still occurs after a reconnect today (as part of last night's maintenance work we moved 2 central pipes, and did some load balancing to even things out).

Hi there,
In addition to what Mand has said, your sync speeds are looking fine and I'd go with her suggestion of a reboot.
Let us know how you get on.

I did get the BT Speedtest to start today. It was running for over an hour but I did not get a result. How long does this test normally take? I would be interested to see the results of this test.
I checked the speed again this evening ( without a reboot / reconnect) and my speed is back to "normal"
Out of curiosity I will reboot now and check the speed again.
Thanks every one for your help

Hi PJ
I had previously ran the BTspeedtest using Firefox without success. I thought I would try using IE and, guess what, the test ran in about two minutes.
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 2500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 3776 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 2227 kbps
So now I now how to do it. Thanks for your help

Hi Santiago,
Yesterday, your connection had a resync event at 2848Kbps, causing your profile to be changed to 2500Kbps. Your current synchronisation speed should give you a new profile of 3000Kbps in the next couple of days if it remains stable.
Your speeds look perfectly fine for the current profile that BT have assigned you.

PJ
Here are the router stats
ADSL link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3456kbps 448kbps
Line Attenuation 44db 13db
Noise Margin 2db 2db
Jameseh
I believe the resync event was the power cut we had yesterday!
Well if you guys reckon everything is ok thats great. Thanks for the help.
By the way I am enjoying this forum, it is a good way to learn about this stuff
