Re: Guaranteed Minimum Speed

@Don101

When CityFibre installed at my location they built their own "backbone" fibre network and then switched to OpenReach ducting for the final house install. This is done from a small cabinet in each street which is connected to the backbone.

Most of the village (small town) only had FTTC but in my area a few hundred houses already had OR FTTP so we now have a choice of fibre providers. Funny thing is most of the ISP's using CF also use the OR network.

Re: Guaranteed Minimum Speed

@Don101   to help you clear up what PN speeds you should be getting, could you enter your phone number into the BTW DSL Checker and post the results - hiding your phone number. https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL

You have said several times you used to get higher speeds, I and others have said you likely have a fault and should get that sorted to get your speeds back, yet you seem to believe what the nice man from PN says 9Mbps is OK.

Also, Openreach will tell you if they have plans to add fibre in your area. Their plans show what they have in scope for several years ahead, so it may help your decision to jusmp to Cityfibre now or wait until you can upgrade your PN service. https://www.openreach.com/fibre-checker

Re: Guaranteed Minimum Speed

Hi Mustrum,

I went to that page and put in my number. Lots of info. However Im afraid I have no idea how to share it. Not very techi in that way. I tried copy and paste didnt work.

If you have the patience to explain how to do that please do.

Im having a new boiler fitted and looking after the grandson and the wifes getting a bit irritated cos im sitting at the computer all day. May have to get back later.

All very useful info, thanks.

Re: Guaranteed Minimum Speed

@Don101

If you use Windows then there should be a "Snipping Tool" program available to you. You start it, draw a reactangle around the area you want to save (including the narrative below the results window but not your phone number), save the image to your PC. To draw the rectangle you simply put you cursor in one corner, hold the button down and move the mouse.

When you have the image saved you can either attach it to a post as a file or "post" it in the message using the button above the text entry that looks like a rectanlge with a mountain in it.

Re: Guaranteed Minimum Speed

@Don101   There are a few ways, but much depends on what you are using to post on here and log onto the router.

A simple but a bit messy way is a simple copy and paste.

But if you are able to do a screen shot, you could then post the pic using insert photo symbol at the top pf your draft post.

Good luck, and do shout if you need some more help, others will be able to provide a more detailed description once we know what you are using to post/connect to the DSL checker.

Re: Guaranteed Minimum Speed

@Don101 Looking at that rather old report has reminded me to ask, which router are you using, and have you had that speed since November last year?

Re: Guaranteed Minimum Speed

Just to make it all a bit more interesting (the wifes complaining), I turned my router off for an hour, as the PN Techie suggested. Just turned it on and did a speed test, and instantly getting 23.68 upload speed. Crazy Man!!

Re: Guaranteed Minimum Speed

Well done @Don101 .

So that shows you could be getting up to 43Mbps, and that the handback speed is 30Mbps.

It also shows in the Observed speeds, 7.4 and that your upload speed is higher than your download speed.

So the nice man you spoke to should have been able to see this, but either ignored it or is totaly incompetent/lazy.useless/a liar take your choice, but for sure was not doing you proud.

As mentioned earlier, please get a fault reported, don't listen to any bullsh!t so that at the very least you are getting the speeds you are paying for until your contract runs out.

In the mean time you can do a bit more research on the Openreach website and the Cityfibre providers.

Re: Guaranteed Minimum Speed

@Don101

Happy to be of help.

For information you can add text with images. If beforehand make sure your hit the enter button to put the cursor on a blank line. If you wish to add text after the image I believe the cursor will be at the bottom right of the image so hit enter to move to a fresh line.

Thanks for all the help, learned a lot today.

Re: Guaranteed Minimum Speed

@Don101  I am astounded at how useless Plusnet Support has been throughout this thread and as for the "technician" you spoke with in msg#24 it is almost all an absolute load of rubbish, the only useful thing was restarting the router which has improved your speed but there is still a speed fault needing investigation as @Mustrum has suggested.
