My Broadband is recovering from a fault that occurred over a week ago.
Since that time I have tried several routers and ADSL filters, each attempt
creating further interruptions to my service. Since the 12th Jan I have been
getting consistant sync speeds of over 3Mb/s, although download speeds
are approx 128kb/s.
Plusnet have told me that the 128 kb/s D/L will be the norm unless my router
remains in sync for 72hrs. I have ordered some good quality ADSL filters and
now have the dilema, "when do I fit them" any break could, I assume restart the
72hr wait period.
Could anyone point me to an article on DLM and the algorithm behind its function.
I wouldn't do it personally, but I know people who switch of their router every night,
they dont appear to have this problem. Does the DLM allow one loss of sync before
restrictions, does it allow two.
I have as I suspect we all have, had occasions where sync loss has occurred.
(ie changing equipment etc) without incurring a 3 day 128 kb/s D/L.
It would be great if Plusnet could push a button and reset the Blighter!
Regards
Dave

Welcome to the forum
The more you change thinks your side the worse it will get.
Just leave your router on 24/7, it can take up to a week before BT thinks its OK, a big jump can be quicker, Patience is a virtue

Hi daverw,
I wish we could just push a button, that would be fantastic. I wouldn't change anything while you're waiting for the DLM to lift the profile. Once it has you should be able to safely disconnect without it affecting the profile. The best way to do that is via the router interface.

Hi Jojo,
Just clarifying!
As far as the equipment, line side of my router is concerned?
Is it able to differentiate between a disconnect through the router interface,
and a pull the plug type of break, ie switch off router or disconnect the line
into the router.
Regards

HI daverw,
As far as I'm aware disconnecting from the router sends a signal about it being an intentional disconnection where the 'pull the plug' method will make it just assume the line dropped.

These might help a bit. Not so much on the DLM algoriothm, but certainly on its impact.
