Re: Can I block a device from internet access on TG582 ?

I have the same Humax as you and I'm intrigued as to how you found out that it was using 41MB per hour!
Ahhh, just found this thread on another forum.

Hi,
I posted about it's use some time ago on digital spy before the above thread.
I checked my internet use one day and saw a lot of use in the middle of the night which coincided with the Humax powering up.
Emails to Humax have gone unanswered Sad
I know I've got a 250GB limit and the option to switch to unlimited but it just seems really wasteful.

Hmmm!
I wonder if it's possible to find out which port the Humax is using and then block it with the router firewall?

Re: Can I block a device from internet access on TG582 ?

You can buy a 5 port switch for about £8.
No Tax Paid at http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-Unmanaged-Desktop-TL-SF1005D-Plastic/dp/B000FNFSPY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF...
If you connected via the switch (wasting 3 ports) you could control it by switching the power on or off.  Grin

Not sure how you see this idea meeting this requirement:

but I want it to see the rest of my network so I can use it for playing .avi and .mp3 files etc.

Re: Can I block a device from internet access on TG582 ?

Just another thought Paul - could you use 'Parental Control' to restrict the Humax (with a fixed IP address) from accessing the Internet?
That's assuming you know the url it links to!

Same way as my suggestion of pulling the network cable out - Plug it back in when you want to watch an AVI or listen to an MP3.
Not ideal, but far easier than changing the Humax network settings to watch iPlayer and changing them back again when you've finished?  Smiley

But if he connects it for two hours watching a film from the LAN that's two hours where the box will also be wasting usage allowance connecting to the internet.
