Can I block a device from internet access on TG582 ?

Hi,
I've a set top box connected to my network which I want to block from accessing the internet.
Can I do this on the TG582 based on mac address or some other method ?
I still need the device to see the rest of my internal network, just don't want it going onto the internet.

If you want the box to see your internal network, you require that it sees the router.
So it's unlikely that you can do this easily on any home router.
Why do you want to do this?

Thanks for your reply.
When not in standby the set top box uses approx 41MB+ of data per hour over the internet. This is simply when out of standby and watching live TV. Obviously I expect it to use large amounts of data when I'm using IPlayer or ITV player etc but not when watching live tv.
41MB/hour is many gigabytes a month of wasted data.
I want to block it from the internet unless I want to use iplayer etc in which case I'll unblock it but I want it to see the rest of my network so I can use it for playing .avi and .mp3 files etc.

You MIGHT be able to block it using a firewall rule. First read up on the CLI firewall commands...
Then allocate the box a fixed IP address or configure the TG582 to 'always allocate the same address' to the box.
Then you might be able to block access using something like 'firewall rule add chain=forward_level_Standard srcip=192.168.1.xxx dstintf=wan action=deny'
The srcip in that is obviously the ip you've allocated to the box.
Please bear in mind that this is just an educated guess as to the correct command and I'm really not sure about the chain name. You may also have to play around with index numbers for the various rules in the chain to ensure that
yours takes precedent.

The following web page gives instructions for scheduling web access for a particular device based on it's MAC address: http://npr.me.uk/accesscontrol.html
You might be able to use that and it looks like you can enable/disable the schedule. You'd want to block 8am to midnight each day.

Thanks for the link. I'll experiment over the weekend when I've more time.
Hopefully Humax will stop the box wasting that much data in the future but I'm not holding my breath.

A thought: is it easy to change the network settings on the television to remove the gateway address? Without a gateway it will only be able to access devices on the subnet, i.e. the LAN.

That's what I posted and then deleted - You'd need to enter a gateway every time you want to watch iPlayer and then remove it again...
It may be easier to just unplug the ethernet cable when you don't want to stream or watch iPlayer

It might be possible to block the source...

Nice find Jelv. I looked at the link and it says for TG587n but it does seem to be implemented on the TG582n, well at least 'tod schedule list' works.
Strange the CLI manual for the TG582 doesn't list any tod commands...

It's the latest Humax Freesat <Freetime> stb - HDR1000S, a box with so many bugs it wouldn't even pass my companies alpha test stage never mind make it to public release.
Quite why it uses 41MB of data when not using iplayer etc is anyones guess.
I'll try the various suggestions on this forum including logging where the traffic is from/to.

The only EPG it could be keeping up to date is the iplayer/itv-player/etc epg.  The live tv epg is over air.
41MB each and every hour the box is out of standby regardless of what you're doing is hell of a lot of data.  Several GB each month of wasted data especially as other units such as my bluray player only access the internet when I select iplayer etc.
Will try and log the traffic to see what it's accessing.
Heading off topic now anyway.
