Re: Broadband speed capped at 22mb

It's handy that there's another double mains socket on the adjacent wall.

You could move the powerline adaptor and the PSU to there, as far away from the master socket as possible.

@Forcibly

I may be totally barking up the wrong tree here but if you're on a SOGEA (internet only) line do you still need the filter - it separates the phone and internet signals?

Try pluging your cable directly into the M/S and see what happens.

Re: Broadband speed capped at 22mb

@outcast  yeah i will try that i never thought or knew this powerline adapter could effect it . The reason for it is due to the pc set up being downstairs in an office, and as you know now the master socket is on landing so it was the most coinvent way of doing it.

Re: Broadband speed capped at 22mb

@bmc    Its just a single socket M/S , no way for my to plug in an RJ11 connector direct

Re: Broadband speed capped at 22mb

@Forcibly

You would need a cable with RJ11 and BT431A plugs to do that.  (that's what I use in to a single phone socket like yours)

You've got bigger problems than that to solve first.

Re: Broadband speed capped at 22mb

I've done a speed test since they did a line rest (around 2 hours ago) and I get to 29mb. I'm just using wifi though , would you recommend just not using the power line at this moment?

Re: Broadband speed capped at 22mb

In all of your photos, the powerline adaptor has been switched off,  so that can't be the root cause of your problems.

However be aware that powerline adaptor's electronics often use the same frequencies as those used by VDSL broadband, so it is best practice to try and keep powerline adaptors away from the master socket, and from the route of the incoming phone line, to minimise the possibility of electronic interference affecting the DSL signals.

Keep using it for now, as the majority of your speed issue is likely to be one of -

  • An external fault of some sort on your landline cable back to the FTTC cabinet,
  • The external landline passing by an electrical noise source, like a generator, train line, electric fence, factory, etc
  • A more distant fault with the wires between the FTTC cabinet and the telephone exchange

If you do get an engineer booked, ask them to remove the internal phone extension wiring - as that won't be helping.

Re: Broadband speed capped at 22mb

@Forcibly Your problem is not resolved by the reset, so you need OR to investigate. Have you moved the plugs to the other par of sockets - although I doubt that is really your problem?

Can you also post your line stats and another error log please?

Re: Broadband speed capped at 22mb

I have moved the plugs to the other socket, I did another test with the test socket and this time with a laptop ethernet direct to router (rather than the power line) and I got to 36mb , since the DLM reset it just stays at 30mb. I havent removed the extension from the master socket as Its not something I can do at this hour. I've attached the line stats and event log but this is after I disconnected due to testing what I stated above. ss1.png

Re: Broadband speed capped at 22mb

@Forcibly Obviously, the reset didn't really achieve anything. As I have said before, this needs a proper investigation of the OR infrastructure, which I suggest you ask PN to arrange.

Unfortunately, now it is the weekend, the chances of you getting an agent who will agree to this is remote, but it is needed.

@outcast - any suggestions? I know what I would do, but it would probably not work for someone with, to be nice about it, a 'laymans' understanding.
