Re: *21CN ONLY* Do you think your PN profile is not updating as it should?

Yes I am using an extension atm, but there isn't hardly any difference when I plug straight into the test socket which I had to use a couple of weeks ago with the fault testing. One thing of note us that I was getting speeds of 7.5-8mb when I had the no internet connectivity issue but the SNR on the router was 6db. Had no disconnects so can we try reducing the SNR?
Thanks Nokk

Re: *21CN ONLY* Do you think your PN profile is not updating as it should?

Hi Nokk,
You won't see a difference when you plug into the test socket as the SNR won't go down. The thing is, the extension will probably be causing the noise, so it's not worth me resetting it while it's in there. If I reset it and it's not in the test socket or you move it out of the test socket afterwards the SNR may go back up. Once I initiate the reset it will start a 10 day training period, so you wouldn't be able to raise any performance issues during that time.

If you are talking about the results of a speed test you won't see any difference for a long time. One reason is as JoJo said that because of the high target noise margin you will be syncing a lot slower, the other reason is that it takes the system some hours to respond to higher sync speeds and raise your profile.
Extension leads are notorious for causing problems - they are usually designed for telephone handsets and are too poor quality for connecting broadband unless you are very close to the exchange and have a good strong signal when you can sometimes get away with it. If you could put your router by the master socket and instead run a long ethernet cable to where you need the connection that would much better. Alternatively use homeplugs which connect using your electricity ringmain. I'm using these.

Hi Stu,
I have raised your profile to 17300 to allow for your new BT IP profile. This should take effect shortly.

Hi Jojo
If I plug straight into the master socket is that,ok? Rather than the test socket.
Thanks

Re: *21CN ONLY* Do you think your PN profile is not updating as it should?

If there are other hardwired extensions using the front not the test socket inside is not acceptable. This is because the hardwired extensions are connected to the back of the removable part of the master socket and are therefore disconnected when you use the test socket. The point of using the test socket is to ascertain whether the problem is caused by the internal wiring (if it were and an engineer was called out and found that was the reason it would cost you £60).

Hi Nokk,
I still wouldn't be comfortable resetting the SNR unless it's in the test socket, it could just set us back 10 days.

Re: *21CN ONLY* Do you think your PN profile is not updating as it should?

BT profile 9.04Mbps, PN profile still 8.6 after 50 hours (have had some different but stable BT IP profiles over the last 5 months but I don't think it's auto-updated more than once in that time - I guess that's not news any more though is it?!)  Roll_eyes
Could someone reset the PN profile manually for me please?
