Re: 38Mbps product now only 2Mbps upstream maximum

Same thing as the previous poster really. Given there were/are only two products.
IIRC the product before 38/20 was 38/10. The original was 38/2 but changed upwards when the first (allowance capped) 76/20 was introduced.

Re: 38Mbps product now only 2Mbps upstream maximum

Bit shocking, But if my parents 40/20 is already signed up last year with 18 months contract. They can carry on and continue with 40/20. I think the 40/2 is for new customer only to take affect from tomorrow. Am I correct Plusnet staff?
But I don't understand why 40/2? As all other isp's have 40/10. Rather odd move by Plusnet.

Re: 38Mbps product now only 2Mbps upstream maximum

If the upload speed is genuinely changing to 2 Mbps, then that would definitely be a dealbreaker for me. There is no point in me paying for the 76 Mbps service as 40 Mbps is as fast as the line will go. Going down to 2 Mbps upload however is a severe, detrimental change. I understand it is only on new contracts, but this would definitely force me to change ISP.
A very poor move Plusnet.
Unless of course it is just a typo/error, in which case, you ought to get it fixed.

Re: 38Mbps product now only 2Mbps upstream maximum

If it was including existing customer. Then my parents have every rights to leave plusnet without any penalty charge because plusnet have broken the contract deal which they did promise 40/20 for 18 months deal. No excuse, no buts!

Re: 38Mbps product now only 2Mbps upstream maximum

Can anyone confirm that the reduced upload speeds only apply to new customers? My medium fibre just got switched on this afternoon — it was ordered on 21/5/15. Part of the appeal of Plusnet was the decent upload speed, so it would be disappointing if it's going to be capped at 2Mb.

Re: 38Mbps product now only 2Mbps upstream maximum

Under ofcom ruling. Plusnet cannot promise you 40/20 yesterday and today u went revert back to 40/2 and that's mean Plusnet are in serious trouble for misleading against you. I just hope it for new customer from today.
I think it for new customer only because if the product revert from 40/20 to 40/2 it would mean it need an engineer to go to the cabinet to change product 80/20 (default) to 40/2 and reset DLM.

Re: 38Mbps product now only 2Mbps upstream maximum

On all product changes, going back years, the change has only been for new signups to the latest product. Existing customers changing product to a "new current" one do however get whatever the new specification and price is. Not surprisingly.
There are huge numbers of customers on legacy products at legacy prices. I'm even on the current FTTC 78/20 but paying an earlier price for it because of when I upgraded to it.
The new price list is for signups from 17 June 2015 but I think they are no different from the 14 June 2015 ones except the discount deals are now "hard-priced in". There is a section:-
Quote
5. For customers who signed up between 10th June 2014 and 16th June 2015 and any customers changing their broadband product (including re-contracting or upgrading), the prices are as follows:

Re: 38Mbps product now only 2Mbps upstream maximum

Thanks Estragon and goldenfibre; I was hoping that would be the case.
Off topic, it's a been a very positive experience so far with Plusnet. Phoned them up a couple of times during the switch from my old provider, and got proper answers reasonably quickly. You would not believe how bad my previous ISP was, if you needed to talk to them.

Re: 38Mbps product now only 2Mbps upstream maximum

I'm on a 40/20 but in reality I'm only getting 17/2 wired.
I know the download issue is ally but I've never understood why upload is always lower.
Let's be careful out there !

Re: 38Mbps product now only 2Mbps upstream maximum

There is no mention of self install fibre product so can we expect another product refresh in a few months from now?

Re: 38Mbps product now only 2Mbps upstream maximum

this essentially makes the standard plusnet Fibre product totally unviable as an option for any new customer.
even BT (the parent company) still offer 40/10 as the basic fibre product.
i'd like to hear the rational behind this decision - of course we'll never be told.
i was getting to the point of upgrading from ADSL to Fibre 40/20 - but that is now completely out the window with 40/2
i sync at 17Mbps down which is more than enough for me, so it was mainly the upstream improvements that was the main factor for me. at 2Mps on fibre it's not longer worth it at all.
