Quote from: MrT With my Windows XP Home, I use Autoruns available from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902(v=msdn.10).aspx
Indeed, Autoruns from SysInternals is a really great tool for looking under the hood. It's amazing how much stuff loads on startup - including all of that bloatware from Sony/Dell/HP etc. With Autoruns you can switch it out.
The other most usefull gadget from SysInternals is Process Explorer
This shows Windows processes in real time as they are created, live and decay. You can identify which DDLs each process uses too. Or you can just sit their and watch the pretty colours. Just one caveat is Process Explorer may trip an Anti Virus alarm - it requires higher privilages than the current user may have. But that's not a problem as SysInternals stuff is trusted.

Another cool one to try is TCP View which lets you see your computer's TCP/UDP endpoints. Very handy for seeing where all that internet traffic is really going. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897437
