Must admit even tho speed not stable ,, BF3 runs SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET 
BT called this morning 
, all his tests showed fine he went to the exchange and removed my line from the old BB connection NIC card , they have found for some reason this helps on 80/20 , just told me to keep a check on connection

since the engineers visit , my speed has settled down am now getting regular speeds around 60- 70

Great news, and cheers for the tip - might save time on these faults in future, you never know
Matt obviously for some reason if your old line is still connected at the exchange for old broadband it must interfere with the FTTC as since the BT engineer removed mine , i have had excellent speeds take a look at my speedtest results you can see the difference it made
Very interesting thread here - I wonder whether it is worth more extensive testing to see if it resolves some of the speed issues that have been seen? 
Yup , BlastWave if i remember correctly the engineer said his m8 tried this on a connection with same problem, and just tried this as a last resort as all tests show up Ok .
