VDSL always syncs at 24.998 Mbps

I have noticed that our downstream is always syncing at 24.998 Mbps, is there such a thing as a 25 Mbps limit? I am pretty sure we used to get a better rate before.

@tbutcher How far are you from your cab? Your SNR (downstream) is elevated, which suggests a fault, anyway.

Re: VDSL always syncs at 24.998 Mbps

I am not sure our distance but we are on the outskirts of a village so some presume it is over 1km. A new housing development was put in last year on I believe they have FTTP but I believe we still connect to the cabinet in the village.

We have had engineers out a few times in the 10 years we have lived here any some have said their is a fault that they need to investigate and then the next guy says it is fine. The constant shuffling you around gets boring and I give up.

Re: VDSL always syncs at 24.998 Mbps

OK, as I suspect there is a  fault, can you start by posting a scree shot of the result from: https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL  , assuming you still have a phone line connected, otherwise use: https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL/AddressHome

In either case, obscure personal details.

Thanks for that. You are a loooong way from the cab, so what you are getting is quite probably the best you can, to be honest.

Thanks, how do you know the distance?

Re: VDSL always syncs at 24.998 Mbps

It is discernable from the figures at the top left of your screenshot  - with a downstream line rate that low on VDSL, I'm guessing, because I don't have time to search for the calculator which would give a more accurate figure, that you are close to a mile away from the cab, with a resulting long copper run.

Re: VDSL always syncs at 24.998 Mbps

@tbutcher your router is estimating the maximum line rate at 27.8Mb. You are synching at 25Mb which is slightly below this and is probably due to being capped at that speed by the DSLAM to stabilise the line.  According to the BT checker results, 25Mb  is above the handback threshold and so getting Openreach to investigate is going to be almost impossible.

As@jab1 says, what you are getting is reasonable for your line length.
