Re: SNR reset

I currently have problems with my internet connection as discussed in this thread http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,110354.msg946617.html#msg946617, can one of the Plusnet team run any tests that might add any extra info to help find a cause.  forum regular 'Anotherone' suggested a 'copper test'
I changed over routers yesterday lunchtime so any information to compare the number of errors on the line in the last week compared to the last 22 hours might help see if changing the router has helped.
Could you also post any other info that might help.

Re: SNR reset

Hi there,
I'll reply to you on the other thread if that's OK with you as it's much easier to keep everything in one place re the same issue.

Re: SNR reset

Just in reply to your post here: http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,110354.msg946670.html#msg946670
I'm going to encourage you to go through automated testing first by raising a fault at http://faults.plus.net as that might well identify any issues with the line. Try that first and if not let me know.

Re: SNR reset

I have raised the fault and been given ticket #64071836
The line has just dropped (and reconnected) possible due to Plusnet line testing.

Re: SNR reset

I don't think line tests actually cause the line to drop to be honest, it looks like you've experienced quite a lot of disconnections of late:

However the automated tests have indeed picked up on that and have forwarded your ticket to the relevant faults ticket pool for further action.

Re: SNR reset

seems strange your monitoring software shows a disocnnection around 11am but the router logs don't show any line drops as I would normally see the following in the logs.
Fri, 2013-01-04 12:21:05 - LCP down.
Fri, 2013-01-04 12:21:12 - Initialize LCP.
Fri, 2013-01-04 12:21:12 - LCP is allowed to come up.
Fri, 2013-01-04 12:21:14 - CHAP authentication success
Unfortunately I had stopped monitoring usings Routerstats for s hort period that included 11am.

Re: SNR reset

It would be helpful if we knew what the actual fault was that's been identified!

Re: SNR reset

As far as I know no fault has been identified yet.
The last update I have is:
Quote
We are currently performing tests on your broadband service which will allow us to investigate the problem you've reported.
Please be aware if this is a new fault that this can take up to 24 hours.
We'll contact you as soon as we have more information and let you know what happens next

Since swithcing router I have had two line drops which is much improved but far from ideal given the low snr margin and speed.
I do still believe the original router to be faulty as I am now using it at home instead of my old v3 router but has already dropped 3 times in the last 5 hours on a line that my normal v3 router would be up for months at a time and never dropped.  It also gave ridiculous bits/tone graph as I disocvered at the problem property.

Re: SNR reset

The faults checker will look at how many disconnections have happened in a set period of time, if this is breached it'll move the ticket to a relevant ticket pool to be worked.

Re: SNR reset

What we could do with is the results of a Copper Test so that cowley can hammer BT Retail.

Great help that is really, as he already knows that  Roll_eyes  (that's not a dig at your comment, just the system!)
I suspect this is another example of the faults checker not allowing him point it in the right direction as has been highlighted before when there's been noise on the line!
We did ask if a Copper test could be done http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,110354.msg946617.html#msg946617 and also http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,110354.msg946670.html#msg946670

Re: SNR reset

Testing of the old DG834GT router on my home connection has proven that the router was dodgy as it has dropped 8 times in 8 hours, and so have had to remove it before my home connection gets its IP profile lowered.
Where as the replacement DG834Gv4 has only dropped twice in around 32 hours the last time being over 8 hours ago.
Is it worth plugging the router into the filtered faceplate instead of the test socket via microfilter or would that be a bad move as it would show as an extra line drop.
By Monday I should have another DG834GT to try.

Re: SNR reset

If you use the Disconnect method - drop the PPPoA Internet seesion, wait, power down, wait unplug from the line, it should be seen as deliberate user action and not present a problem. Take 10 minutes for the swap, power up and click "Connect" on your PPPoA session.
I don't see any reason why you can't go back to the Filtered plate as you've demonstrated that it's not the cause of the problem. But, don't forget, at the point when you want/are able to kick BT with whatever evidence, best to have a corded phone in the test socket.

Re: SNR reset

I assume to do that I would log into the router, go to the 'Router Status' page, followed by the 'Router Status' button and then the 'Disconnect' button
I have attached the latest Rx Noise Margin graphs, the frop from 9dB to 6dB at 9:36pm for an hour I think might be someone making a telephone call.
The line dropped and resync at 12:21pm and the telephone was used at 3:36pm
