Re: High number of DNS queries

Yes, please configure the two firewall rules, one for each camera.
Google are unlikely to be bothered about a few lookups for nonexistent names but you may as well block them.

Oh 'eck  npr This from PN today, "
I can confirm that we are still seeing the requests after you have made your changes.

I'm still trying to get the correct configuration to get hits on Block camera 1 I thought it would be Google complaining. Is there anything else I needed to do. Sorry for the hastle.

Re: High number of DNS queries

The line input by the script shows the secondary DNS IP correctly as 8.8.4.4, it is the echo which has that strange string of characters. Whether it matters I don't know, but npr's example output also shows it.
To see which DNS servers are now assigned open a command prompt window and type
ipconfig /all
Note: there is a space before /all

Re: High number of DNS queries

@1110_110
That is just the router echoing the command. I was seeing that at this end but the command still get configured correctly.
@tarren
The output from the script indicated the router now issues google dns IP's.
This can be checked as per spraxyt suggestion. Please post the result from that test.
Please shout up if you have problems with the test.
Assuming the above test confirms the router is now issuing google dns to connected devices -- if any device is still using PN dns the there's two possible reasons.
1) the device has not been rebooted so it gets the new dns settings via dhcp from the router.
2) the  camera is configured on static a IP addresses with PN dns configured, I tried to get this checked in post No22.
Did you add the firewall rules to block dns from the cameras, as requested in my post No58?

Re: High number of DNS queries

npr, I'm half way there, I've been throwing everything at this poor old router, and I've managed to configure one of the cams.  Cannot understand why cam 1 doesn't behave in the same way, configured the same, but not as yet with the same result, I'll keep trying.
If I switch cam 1 off, presumably this would kill any hits to PN?
Many thanks again, I'll keep on trying and will get back.

Re: High number of DNS queries

Are you sure you've got the correct IP address for the cameras?
In your post No 50 you were using IP's 192 .168.1.100 and  192.168.1.102.
Once you get this sorted out please make sure you tick "always use the same IP address" in the routers network settings for the two cameras.

Re: High number of DNS queries

Hello npr Cam 2 has a habit of renewing it's IP addie, I have to use the search tool periodically so that I can connect.

You MUST do the above to stop the IP address changing.

Re: High number of DNS queries

npr Yes, I have that boxed ticked, it's an anomaly that cam has to change it's addie occasionally, but I reconfigure to 102.

Re: High number of DNS queries

Yes, I've tried anything to see if I could get Cam 1 working, have backtracked to Generic device.
