Good news I've just fitted the filtered faceplate, plugged my router in to it and I'm back to my 15 Mbps download speeds. I didn't need to disconnect any of the internal wiring and all my landline telephone extensions still work.
I'm going to buy a separate modem to plug in to the filtered faceplate and run an Ethernet cable back to the original location of the router. Then I can re-site the router back to where it was and as a bonus I'll be all set-up ready for when fibre comes.
I still can't understand why it suddenly stopped working but thanks to everyone for their help

Great to hear and glad to see you got the help on here to get it sorted
Hardware over time can develop faults and it seems that may have been the case here.
