Re: TG582n router

What makes you think that? Where did that come from?
You are upgrading the Router and I hope not touching, switching off or rebooting the BT Modem?

Re: TG582n router

Don't bother with the fibre router supplied by Plusnet. I have two of them both faulty. They keep dropping the lan and resetting. Got so sick of it in the old that I went back to my old Cisco router which does work with fibre suprisingly. You just input your username, password and input the primary, secondary and thirdary IP's into your routers setup. Job done.
I think my router is the WRT120N. Except to pay about £15 for one on eBay.

Re: TG582n router

@daro2096 This thread is about the TG582N not the 2704n.
There is a large thread on the Hardware board about the 2704n as well as several small ones.

Re: TG582n router

Ive had to go back to the  2704n router as the TG582n router was too unstable. i dont know if it was because of the firmware upgrade but i kept getting problems like poor speeds yet as soon as i put the 2704n router back in i got the speeds i was getting beforehand.

I was talking about the TG582N. I have two of them, both faulty.

Re: TG582n router

Well there are usually few problems with the TG582n. Some users are having specific issues for reasons yet to be discovered!
So what is wrong with your TG582n - what symptoms do you have?

Re: TG582n router

@bustermissy1961
When you say the 582n was too unstable, in what way, what problems were you seeing?
If it was purely throughput speed, this may well be the Congestion issue and merely swapping Routers simply means that you end up on a different Gateway and endpoint and so not seeing the problem.

Re: TG582n router

It might have just been that Anotherone but even though the 2704n is basic to say the least i never had any bother with it, regarding not being able to get on the net. I just wish it had the options the TG582n has, as i only wanted the TG582n because i thought i could get my Wireless Printer working, as i cant with either Routers working with my Printer i might as well go back to the one i know is better for me personally.

Re: TG582n router

Run the BTw Performance test - DON'T REBOOT, use an Ethernet (wired) connection ignore the red preamble except make sure no other programs are using the Internet - and at the end of the first run, click the Further Diagnostics button, enter just your Phone number and Run the Further Diagnostics Test. Do a Copy and Paste of the results and post here (no need to grab an image).
Also run the TBB test and post the link for that.
Swap back to the 582n and run both tests again and post those results.

Re: TG582n router

That's fine, no matter. When I said Copy/Paste the BTw one, literally highlight with your cursor from "1. Best Effort Test" through to ..."server in the first instance." Leave out the FAQ bits.
It doesnt't copy the bit of fancy graphics, but that's no matter as all the relevant figures are in the text. It saves messing around with grabbing an image and saving and then attaching to a post Wink
The graphics on the TBB one are important though.

Re: TG582n router

Well hardly a cat's whisker in it, so stay put, don't reboot the Router for now. Check which Gateway you are on and post that (just for reference). If later you see any speed issues, then log into the Router, and where you see the Disconnect button, click on that, wait 30 seconds, and then click Connect. That should result in a gateway hop. Check which Gateway you are on again. Sometimes the Gateway won't change, but the route and end-point by which you are connected probably will have and may solve a speed issue. If not, try hopping again, check and report the Gateways each time.
Edit: spelling.
